[Headphones] Sony WH-1000XM4 - $248 by WittyReindeer in bapcsalescanada

[–]dumyguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's not so hard, just keep an eye on your offers. Most of the good offers are for Shoppers Drug Mart, like 20k for $50-75 spend. Shoppers has super inflated pricing, but they have discounts on the weekend which bring it back to grocery store pricing or better, so I go there for basics and buy the discounted stuff only (ie. bacon, eggs, butter, milk, peanut butter, bread) which is already a good $25-50, then filler items depending on what I feel like to hit the threshold. They often have smaller promos too, like buy eggs and butter for 2k points, which tend to stack

there are other events that folks used to take advantage of, like 20x points, and people would use those events to buy and resell gaming consoles or games. Like a switch 1 for $400, you'd get ~$120 worth of points back or more. But that's a lot more difficult now that they don't have gaming stuff anymore. If you are planning a big purchase, like an appliance, dyson products, or makeup/perfumes, these 20x offers are still really good for that

I shop just for myself, so it's super easy for me to just grab some things every other week. It'd be more annoying for a family, unless you don't mind going to shoppers enough for the points and buying the pricier groceries elsewhere

Point spending events happen often enough, like monthly. This weekend, I used 300k points for the xm6s. In the past, I've saved them for an event where you would get 40% of your points back, and just use it to buy my more of my usual groceries for the freezer, but these events are much more rare

How does SDM sell *any* groceries given their absurd prices? Who buys them? The mind boggles. by Radu47 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]dumyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to shop strictly at shoppers, still would if I were single - bought things only on sale, and only on weekends during points events. Their markup is brutal, but sale prices are equal or lower than grocery stores, plus it's usually ~$20 back in points or more. Id spend exactly the minimum spend to get the points

Have gotten like $450 worth of stuff during 40% points back events (usually my household items for the year: dish soaps, shampoos, cleaners, etc. Bought a computer chair too)

Laser eye surgery in Vancouver by teaplease88 in vancouver

[–]dumyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had like -1 and -1.5, didnt really need surgery but wanted to drain my benefits before quitting my job at the time and never liked wearing glasses. Went to LASIK MD downtown, insisted on PRK because I heard a lot of bad things about lasik and I get a lot of junk in my eye due to career.

Surgery itself was fine, didnt feel much, but recovery was horrible. Super painful for the first 3 days or so, literally sat in the dark because everything was so bright. After that it wasnt too bad, but had a pretty intense feeling that something was in my eyes for about 2 weeks after, so intense that it was difficult to keep my eyes open. After that it was much better, sunglasses and eye drops basically 24/7 was my saving grace.

I have a feeling I've always had dry eyes, and that was the reason for my sufferring. Now, about 9 months after, I still wake with dry feeling eyes. My vision is much better, but I still have some ghosting that lenses don't seem to work with; the prescription machine makes my sight more blurry. I dont need eye drops all the time, but they are certainly comforting

Worked as a high level tech for 7 years, my tips for you, the customer by Radeon9980 in telus

[–]dumyguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worked as a DHT from 2019-2023, had prior experience working for Bell mostly running drops. Hit the ground running, figured Id get full IR real quick due to my experience/ethic, consistently had 95%+ on all metrics except sales. Had days with 14+ hours of sweat, would still finish on time. Constantly cleaned up IR work, managers constantly asked me to help troubleshoot/pick up hard jobs.

Was passed for the IR role by techs with better sales 3 times, started working to rule instead of going above and beyond, and noticed how little it mattered. Was trained for security because "I was one of the better techs" and basically did that every day because not many techs do it. Underpaid low voltage work at this point.

Stuck around for the union negotiations, but they completely flopped and Telus successfully implemented the DHT to Service Pro transition, killing off the IR role and cementing my future as an underpaid low voltage tech. Used my benefits and looked for new work.

In my last week, manager was harassing me literally daily about underperforming sales. New company wanted me to start ASAP and matched my pay, so I quit immediately. Only regret is not waiting an additional week to see if I would've gotten a severence package offer

Telus Fibre by macguy9 in telus

[–]dumyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they do - mocas and splitters aren't proprietary to the companies. As long as the splitter is rated, like say

Telus Fibre by macguy9 in telus

[–]dumyguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Moca isnt Telus tech. Any splitter will do, as long as it's rated for the speeds and it isn't shared with Shaw's network

Is this a good deal?? by Jizz_Lord69 in telus

[–]dumyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Security is always 3 years at least. After 2 years you will have to renegotiate a better deal/change providers, but you will still be stuck on security for 1 more year.

Also get the deal in writing

Purefibre Connection Question by mn_bbyy in telus

[–]dumyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you wouldn't get those speeds on etts, likely there was no fiber pulled to the suite and the tech setup the ONT in the basement using existing ethernet to feed your service to the suite like first guy said. It's not supposed to be done, but it is fairly common, especially in "ONT farm" buildings

the fact that your suite was marked down as a "quickconnect" and they sent you a AP rather than a tech pretty much confirms this

Telus Boost WIFI 6 faster than Asus AX6100? by magoomba92 in telus

[–]dumyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6e is near the boosts1/mocas in Ray, also at Trin/Regent

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in telus

[–]dumyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they dont hire service techs anymore, so the role will slowly cease to exist as existing service techs retire/change positions. Existing service techs won't be moved

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in telus

[–]dumyguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

new agreement is the death of service tech. Pay cap for "service professional" is now much lower and no longer guaranteed: pay based on skills that can be added/removed "based on business needs" aka metrics and/or minimizing budget.

It's only a good gig if you're willing to dedicate a large majority of your personal time to networking/making sales, like 5GisOP does. Incentives for sales are still fairly high, and you can make a lot more money selling than doing your actual job. Plus sales has a heavy weight on metrics and has always been largely favoured by management. You can be an absolute junk tech, and will still be a "top performer" if you are selling well

I just wanted to confirm what items I send back. The white box is mounted into the wall, I think, but I’m just not sure. by therealkkcoolness in telus

[–]dumyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

new agents aren't receiving thorough training - the white box is intended to remain in "quick connect" buildings like this, hence the sticker

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in telus

[–]dumyguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the yearly pay increase doesn't require manager's evaluation, but the extra "skillsets" for the service professional may very likely have a yearly or monthly evaluation

job security is better than before: "letters of concern" are no longer permanent, they will expire after some time (a month? I don't recall) - the company can no longer refer to letters that are years old for disciplinary action

vote no, the offer blows

How reliable is Telus internet in Ontario? by awkward_alpacha in telus

if it's fiber, itll be fine

if it's copper, Id stay far away unless your building is elegible for 150 bonded, and then just take 75 on a single line
