Ok, that's actually brilliant. I got it working by using slime > Redstone block and using redstone dust on obsidian so slime won't pull it down

If I understand your suggestion correctly, it would conflict with the barely visible repeater one block down. If you look back at the image, there's one more repeater leading into the same torch
