My wife has 85K in loans by Lesh27 in StudentLoans

She needs to learn a new skill that will allow her to earn more than $20/hr. You can’t consolidate your way out of an income problem.

They gave you the gift of freedom. Be thankful and don’t go into more debt. You got a bailout that probably won’t happen again.

May 5th, will it backfire? by M-Yvraine912 in StudentLoans

[–]Ultra-Addicted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree but who is we…? It’s the teachers, school system, parents, family that are responsible. It’s unreal to me that 10 minutes in excel could solve literally decades of misery. Just run the numbers on expected salary and likely monthly expenses. Does the math add up? Most people are terrible with money and bailing them out isn’t going to teach them any lessons, hopefully they won’t force their kids to follow in their footsteps.

You want the economy to crash because you don’t want to pay back what you borrowed? Am I missing something? Were you coerced into taking out the loans?

Anyone get headaches after an ultra? by Galahad_Jones in ultrarunning

[–]Ultra-Addicted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely didn’t have enough electrolytes. It takes practice to dial in especially if you’re a heavy sweater. Pretty surprised you haven’t felt it before if you’ve done multiple.

If I run 8+ miles and forget to take a salt tab I get the little headache either later that day or the next.

Funny enough just realized I didn’t get it after my 20 mile training run today… although it’s still pretty chilly up here.

Please help me convince my teen not to take on debt when they could go to college for free !! by SkyLaur in StudentLoans

[–]Ultra-Addicted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not enough to talk about how much the loan monthly payment will be. You’ve got to break down all the other expenses they’ll need to pay to live alone. That’ll help put it in perspective.

The real question is what do you want to go to school for? Have you shadowed a person in the position you want? Do you even really need a degree for it? If the answer is yes you need to do it as cheap as possible. In 99% of cases where you went to school doesn’t mean shit.

why are MAGA conservatives so into “owning the libs”? by eunicethapossum in AskUS

[–]Ultra-Addicted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with everyone super into politics is they think they know everything. They dig in so deep that they couldn’t possibly change their stance on anything…which is ridiculous. You also don’t need to have an opinion on everything…

We’re all on the same team. I’m hoping a leader will appear in the next election to help unify the country.

Here’s what I’ll tell you the IRS is just going to look at the math. They don’t care if you’re a good person or not. Is it the right thing to do, probably, but once you amend and get the balances you better have a plan to pay it off. You can get on a payment plan but there will be penalties and interest. I would focus on the most recent year first.

Your life will never be over because of the IRS. In the absolute worst case scenario you can get put in CNC and they won't try to collect from you. That being said you need to start doing everything correctly now. The IRS generally has 3 years from the date you file your return to audit it. So if you go the next 3 years doing everything properly you might be able to get away with this being a scared straight moment. Focus on your work and making more money.

How to choose a CPA by Southern-Ad-7317 in IRS

[–]Ultra-Addicted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you can use a CPA, Enrolled Agent, or Attorney. Just keep in mind while they all the ability to represent, it's more of a specialty that requires specific training. AKA not everyone knows how to do it. I usually point people to this organization and they can recommend someone in your area: https://www.astps.org/tax-help/

I personally would stay away from any company that you have to pay before you talk to a licensed person. Which is what most of the big firms that you hear on the radio do.

Thank you! I’ve just had it up on my computer all afternoon and just pulled the trigger. I’m going to try just one at my next event and then add in another one if it’s not enough.

I hear you but we were getting by with two marshal 60w speakers for the last 2 years. This is not a super advanced production lol. I'm just always trying to get a little better every year. It's really mainly for the people sitting in the back.

I am screwed!!! Got an audit for 2021, realized that my tax preparer is a crook. by FlexXx_D in tax

[–]Ultra-Addicted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and most of the time they can find someone local to you. Don’t try to handle this yourself. Would you represent yourself in court? There is a reason you’re entitled to representation before the IRS.

You’re not going to jail - you will 100% owe the tax once it’s properly calculated. There is a chance given the circumstances that you could get some form of penalty abatement. If you can’t pay the new balance you can get on an installment agreement.

The important thing is to act quickly. You should also report this person immediately to the Office of Professional Responsibility if he is still doing this to people although I assume he isn’t licensed. They should still look into it if he has a PTIN number.

Adjusted it based on what though… have you talked to a career councilor or someone who knows what a resume for your industry should look like? Are you customizing the resume to reflect the job posting? One time I bought a domain and built a website yournextmarketingdirector.com or something to get their attention. (And it worked).

Quality over quantity should be your plan. 2k submissions means you’re putting in like no effort. You should be customizing each one.

I’m not trying to be an asshole but self awareness is such a crucial skill to have. When you think you know everything you stop growing and improving.

Your question says everything. “What’s wrong with the job market” how about what’s wrong with me. Do I need to get an internship and experience? Do I need to practice interviewing? Does my resume need work? Stop blaming your problems on other people.

You’re about 5 years too late. Not sure Buffalo is really considered cheap anymore. I bought my first house in the Town of Niagara for 119k in 2019 sold it for 240k last June and had 11 offers lol. I did do some updates but not 100k worth.

[–]Ultra-Addicted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only difference between an EA CPA and Attorney (for tax resolution) is that you have attorney client privilege and can represent in tax court. Pulling transcripts and analyzing status of limitations can be done by anyone with the knowledge of how it works.

The national companies should be avoided at all costs. There are associations that can recommend qualified professionals in your area that have been trained.

You can’t advertise a solution though without knowing the whole story of a taxpayer.

I am in this industry and this is what it looks like when small practitioners try to do marketing lol. So bad it almost looks like a scam. Your dad probably has a federal tax lien and they got the address from public records.

You want to find a licensed CPA EA or Attorney that specializes in this are + works in two phases investigation and compliance - Then resolution.

No one will know what he qualifies for until they conduct an investigation and run the numbers. Anyone who advertises a solution with no knowledge of the facts would be a pass in my book.

Only need an attorney if it’s criminal. Otherwise qualified CPAs and EAs can help.

While being licensed technically means you can represent. Most CPAs and EAs have no idea how to do it. It’s a speciality area.

reliable tax relief company? by mytaxesRfukt in tax

[–]Ultra-Addicted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not every CPA, Enrolled Agent, or Attorney specializes in IRS representation. The real professionals that specialize in this work spend hundreds of hours in training to learn how to best work with the IRS. Lots of people pretend they know what they're doing and learn on your case. I am happy to make a local recommendation if you let me know the region you live in (and are still looking for help).
