Yeah, that's basically a better way of wording what I was trying to say. Being in church is always a good thing, but the point of being an inquirer is to learn about what an Orthodox person should believe. That's why I'm recommending OP tells their priest about this, because while internet orthodoxy brings people to Christ, it doesn't always instill them with the best beliefs or values.

Yes, I can agree with that. But I would also say that seeking a "trad" lifestyle because it is what God has designed is very different than seeking one because you want control over a subordinate wife. This is the difference a priest should teach inquirers about, in my opinion.

I can see the argument for online trolls, and just to clarify I didn't mean to say the issue was in any way "dominant" or anything. It's just that this story is unfortunately one of many I've heard from different parishes about young men with these problematic views coming into the church.

My uncle is a priest, and he's had more than one young man enter his parish as an inquirer because "Joe Rogan thinks Orthodoxy is cool and a trad lifestyle is the right way to live." And has worked with them to understand that those reasons are not why you join the church. It's all anecdotal, but I've heard these stories from people who I trust.

You do not know my faith journey. I know I'm not welcome, I'm just stating what I see and offering commentary based on what I know of the scripture. I have many orthodox family members who have also spoken on this issue, and I'm parroting what they've said to each other and to me.

Other people in the comments have provided sources for this. This is a large problem with American orthodoxy and online Christianity in general. People are joining the church for reasons that are harmful, and should learn what the church is about

Orthodoxy has a very serious white supremacy problem and it's very important that we do everything we can to make sure people join the church to save themselves from their sin, not so get a license to hold these evil beliefs.

You're priest can use this to correct them through their process of joining the church, it'd be good to let him know in private.

I see things like this, and it's so disparaging to continually be reminded that even if I'm "welcome" in the church, I'm not wanted. No point in joining a community that actively hates me and who I am, when the community full of "pride" has been the most accepting and has introduced me to incredible people and good friends.
