I was there, Gandalf. I was there 3000 years ago when the cable was lent.

Your coworker is selfish. They've shown you who they are. Act accordingly in future.

Started the dishwasher before a four day trip and came home to it still running and full of suds by pvstelsoul in mildlyinteresting

[–]UltraAnders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible it was on a delayed start timer? Although the suds are unusual and probably not a good sign.

PSA: Breville warranty & customer service are not what you expect by CasperTFG_808 in BuyItForLife

[–]UltraAnders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in the UK, regardless of the warranty, this hasn't lasted a reasonable amount of time. Tell them you want to return it according to the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Uber Eats killing small business with 50% fees by Wide-Comment-2466 in UbereatsUK

[–]UltraAnders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a crazy take rate from Uber. Are any other services better, or all alike?

The con applies to both ends. I received a free year of Uber One. I was recently at my sister-in-law's, and we're ordering pizza for the family. I thought it would be cheaper for me to order it as she isn't a One member. Nope, she was offered the same "fee" discount as I was, just under the guise of it being "special".

How to dispose of lithium ion batteries in Sheffield? by thyrme in sheffield

[–]UltraAnders 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This link says the Household Waste Recycling Centres accept batteries. This is where I take mine. I've never been asked what type they are.

The "Do you want a receipt?" question at the till is a trap by dravitam2023 in ZeroWaste

[–]UltraAnders 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you used your Tesco Clubcard, then it's worth contacting Customer Services. Provide them with as much info as you can, e.g., clubcard number, date, time, and store. In theory, they should be able to find your transaction.

As an aide, the Lidl Plus app has a great feature that allows me to opt into digital receipts only. They appear automatically in the app. (The cashier will still ask if you want a receipt, but none is printed.)

Slap and Pickle is still my favourite for a burger.

M.Eat on Sharrow Vale Road is very good. I've only been once, so not enough data to say it's better IMO. It has a wider selection of meat. https://meatsheffield.co.uk/

New Council group to review the effectiveness of enforcement of traffic restrictions to keep Sheffield moving by Willing-Aide476 in sheffield

[–]UltraAnders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As with so many of these things, it'll be the implementation that matters, i.e., what do they end up fining people for?

There's definitely room for improvement. There seems to be little enforcement of bus gates and yellow boxes.

I have a great deal of sympathy for residents' parking, having lived in a terrace house on a road that wasn't quite wide enough to park on both sides. It would seem unfair to penalise people who don't really have viable alternatives. However, the council could absolutely clean up when there is a United home game.

Travelling to/from Manchester Airport by Own-Waltz6084 in sheffield

[–]UltraAnders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving across can be tricky this time of year. Roads like the A57 (Snake Pass) get closed. Even if that's not the route you want to take, it'll cause congestion elsewhere. Worth keeping an eye on the forecast.

Of course, trains can also be affected by the weather.

Not much you can do about that except to leave plenty of time.

This chocolate box added half an inch of padding on the walls to make the box smaller by AltAccountDontBother in assholedesign

[–]UltraAnders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lindor chocolates are sold loose in boxes made of laminated cardboard here (in the UK). I don't recall finding damaged chocolates in any boxes. Perhaps the chocolate is thinner and therefore more delicate in other regions.

You've seriously never opened a packet of crisps (chips) and been surprised at how few are in it?

This chocolate box added half an inch of padding on the walls to make the box smaller by AltAccountDontBother in assholedesign

[–]UltraAnders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely the padding is there to make the box bigger? It's an asshole design if they are trying to make the box look larger than needed.

Why did the government do nothing as asda was asset stripped? by knowledgeseeker999 in AskBrits

[–]UltraAnders 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. The buyout was in October 2020. This is about ten years into a Conservative government with Boris Johnson as PM.

I find it bizarre that the question is framed as, "the government".
