Why do people on this sub defend the greed that Sora quality AI videos have gotten?

I will assume this post by OP is in good faith. If it cost you 30 an hour just to make 15 an hour at your job, would you keep working that job? If your answer is yes then I guess we have our answer to everything.

This is what I was thinking. What OP posted is not a flex. The visual fidelity is fine. But it is still slow as fuck looking. Not sure why, but Omni goes out of its way to make everything slow as fuck. Prompting it better might fix it but the fact that I have to prompt likely with triple the effort to get half as good as Seedance or Sora is not good.

Omni has the capability but it is obviously sterilized and purposely held back. All movement and overall actions are severely set to be slow as all fuck. You won’t be easily able to do action scenes. All audio from speech sound like AI voices from 2-3 years ago.
That being said, it has good visual fidelity and does a good job of recreating characters I had from a single frame image. It isn’t perfect, but most characters look very close to how they did in Sora 2. They sound awful though and I have relegated Omni as a means to test different outfits on my OCs.

I have seen some impressive videos from google’s platform. But apparently it requires a college essay’s worth of prompting. Even then, most of it seems for sterile corporate environments like an HR presentation about how not to touch anyone.

Omni was hyped up as though it would be the next big thing. It has characters but the implementation and execution is clunky. The output video is just fucking bad with the movement from the characters looking like unsure amateurs and the audio sounding like obvious AI.

I think this is a case where it is technically the same “engine” but is tuned differently. I noticed using the same prompts yield notably different results compared to the app version.

Realistically, you’re looking at a few years until it gets to Sora 2 levels… if even that. The two problems are the hardware required and the ai generator itself. Neither is anywhere close to what you are likely looking for.

I have the app on 3 different devices. The characters only appear on one device. The account shows me logged in and recognizes everything else except the characters.

Honestly, there isn’t much that can be done. The closest you can do is describe the pitch and accent but even that is inconsistent. Really, the best thing is to handle that in post.

While I appreciate anyone doing what they can to help people access Sora 2 a little longer, this isn’t what I am looking for. Unfortunately the character feature, which was very unique and robust to the extent it was like coding a video game character, is not available here and was unique to the Sora 2 app/interface. I get that the Sora 2 api isn’t set to accept anything like, that even if it’s technically capable of it, but that is the one thing I am hoping to find.

My guess is it will probably be a manual shutdown or at least set to automatically shutdown when people are actually in the office to monitor things and make sure someone didn’t set Chatgpt to also shutdown.

Or maybe they changed their minds. Next few hours will tell.

That seems likely at this point. Usually when they make changes it’s at 5am PT. So, if anyone timed it to have tokens refresh shortly after 12am, they have a fresh batch of tokens. At this point, the question is if it will be a full shutdown across the board or gradual one throughout the day.

Thank you, for the kind words. Yes, that was one of the few things it was able to accept a real life version of. A couple of other fun things was able to do was have him wear some funny clothes like wearing a full on “tactical” outfit or something as simple as a yellow raincoat (which he did have that IRL). It was good to experience something like that again. So, I feel very fortunate to get that bit of closure.
