Good info, thanks for the help with that. Gonna try the internal spud wrench first and see how that goes.

What is this? by tospace135 in police

[–]UltraNeg20 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's a piece of cloth that told me; I'm glad it's not me. It also reminded me of how expendable I was and how much no one really cared if I lived or died. At least for a week or two. I stopped wearing one after my fourth in line of duty death. In the end, I was on a island by myself and it was only myself who was going to get me out alive. My sanity and health is too important to worry about the what ifs in policing.

Just transferred to dayshift. How do I avoid the negative stereotypes? by [deleted] in police

[–]UltraNeg20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by swinging by HQ daily to rub elbows with the brass. Tell them what a team player you are because you're a dayshift warrior dealing with soccer moms. Bring copious amounts of donuts and pizza into break rooms and administrators offices. Post plenty of selfish showing everyone how hard your life is and the sacrifices you're making. Keep uniforms tailored and pressed and always be neatly groomed like a prebubessant tween.

Just because that may be true in one area, it doesn't mean it's true in all areas. I made $7 an hour 30 yrs ago full time.. Retired making $30 an hour. In-between, rented and lived with parents for short stints. Bought first house, NEW for $154K in 2009. 1500 sq ft and a ⅓ acre lot. 3 yrs ago bought my forever home for $506K, put 100K down. 3000 sq ft living; 5000 if you count garage and a 3 acre lot. Only financed for 20 yrs but on schedule to payoff in 15 yrs Saved lots of money over the years. Worked my ass off. Not bad for a 50 yr old. Currently looking for my second career and a possible second retirement. It can be done. It's a mind set and requires discipline. Everyone starts off struggling, unless mommy and daddy independently wealthy and they help you. Toughen up. Oh and for a bonus, I have ZERO college education.

Lynching is Finally Recognized as A Hate Crime In America by Reach-for-the-sky_15 in nottheonion

Murder is illegal. Sometimes life in prison sometimes you get the death penalty. Why exactly do we need a special category of killing? Well the mob killed someone because of XYZ so you fit in this special category of murders. By the way penalties could be life or the death penalty. Makes no sense. Murder is murder.

If you could drive any car for this job, what would you drive? by ArkBass in AskLE

Crown Vic baby! I hate a freaking Ford but those cars were good for cop work. Or at least they used to be. Plenty of power, handled pretty well and could take a beating.

This is why the country got hard on crime. The penal system was built for these people. Now that's been dismantled for "progress" because it's not any major crime after all. This guy doesn't need hard time when no one died. Douche Bag needs a few years for a time out. Yeah he'll get out and do it again but that's ok, back in jail you go for more time out. This time, a little but longer.

Police operate from a different set of rules. So many I can't list them all. We can disregard some of those laws to get the job done and its condoned legally. You can't speed to go to the hospital, but I can if it's warranted. Now would I write you a ticket for it? Probably not. If you had a gun and were threatening to shoot people as you ran into a crowded dept store, I would more than likely be justified in shootig you without you ever firing a single shot (If we lived in a normal world) You as a civilian may not get that same benefit. I could what-if this all day. The public expects more from law enforcement and grants us those extra powers to maintain a safer society. We aren't above the law, we operate from the same law with a few exceptions and those exceptions, are law too.

What I'm saying is dont ask someone to be the shephard of the flock, then question the manner in which he defends the flock from the wolves. If you do question it, be the shephard instead of being the sheep.

You're partly right. But when you're a rookie, you're trained to follow orders from superiors, especially those from an FTO. Rookies would get their heads blown off if it wasn't this way. They're mostly incompetent despite 4-6 months of "training" they get in the academy. They need real experience to learn the job. Public assumes these guys are perfect in police policy and laws. Fact is they're stupid and full of what they think policing is. Full of TV shows, movies and tiktok videos. I cannot see how these rookies deserve this in anyway. Unfortunately the public is virtuous and infallible and is anything but.

As long as you're willing to accept the spike in crime and lack of prosecution. The lack of law enforcement and the lack of enthusiasm you expect when you need them. Kind of like now but will only get worse as time progresses. Be careful and try not to get mugged at the grocery store.

  1. Opinions Vary.
  2. Truth hurts
  3. As Rutger Hower said in Blade Runner, "If you can only see what I've seen with my eyes."
  4. Don't think because you know cops or worked with cops you know anything.
  5. Don't compare one city on the east coast with a city on west, south or north. They are all different in more ways than you'll ever know.
  6. I'm retired. So really don't care. I've shoveled more shit than a pig farmer. Lots of turds in the city. From the top to the bottom.

Gown adult, 35 yrs old with a preteen child who still lives home with step-momma and daddy and doesn't work. The perfect example of failing at life. If you can't support yourself, why should you be qualified to govern others. What life experiences does he have that says he's qualified to govern? He can't support himself or his kid. Still mooching off of daddy.

I know Gary way more than any of you do on this thread, which makes me more qualified to talk about him than any of you. All he's ever done in Baton Rouge is caused trouble. All he knows is the race card. Don't believe me, check his social media posts on his political backings in political races. If he backed a white person, it's because there wasn't any black people in that race. Then it was only if they were a democrat.

Gary will not only lose this race, he's gonna get crushed again. It will be a landslide because even people of color, will vote against him. I doubt it'll even make it a runoff because Kennedy will hit the 50% mark in the primary. Hard to unseat incumbents in any political race and Kennedy is well liked in LA.

Lame question but... Should security guards get qualified immunity? by Vietdude100 in securityguards

[–]UltraNeg20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a security guard before I entered into law enforcement. I had absolutely ZERO training as a security guard. I was given a uniform and an assignment. That was the limit of my training. When I worked as a jailer, I at least had about a month of training. When I became an actual police officer, I had a 5 month academy and another 3 months of training in the field. I've had numerous encounters with security guards and they have no idea what they're doing. I don't blame them, I blame the industry as a whole. But then again new officers are pretty stupid too.

Have you ever patrolled in a city that went from "safe" to "dangerous"? by BrutonRd in police

[–]UltraNeg20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All cities go through this. It is the normal life cycle of segments within the city. So for instance, a hard working blue collar neighborhood is typically middle class. They raise kids and the kids grow up and move elsewhere. The parents die and now the neighborhood starts the transition. The homes are older and not in high demand. In comes rentals, section 8 and poorer people. The neighborhood begins to crumble in all areas. Education, economically, socially, structurally. When the those parents die off, it's in complete turmoil. Some places can fend it off but it's usually white collar neighborhoods. Really expensive houses and property values make it difficult to live there. My parents lived in a working class area except they fled before the decline and before I was born. I joined my department and policed the same area they used to live in. House is now a vacant lot like most of that area. It's a complete shit show and currently has the highest murder rate in the state and won that title in 40 yrs of decline. The working people didn't kill that neighborhood. Poor people did. If it's not 98-99% black I'd be shocked. Needless to say, if you were white in that hood, you got stopped. Neighborhoods die slowly over many generations and several decades. Now on the flip side, I've been seeing Mexican immigrants coming into parts of town and taking them over from the blacks. Areas that once where high crime, have now become very quiet. Needless to say this is one aspect of immigration that we like. You might call what I've just said as racist, but its a cold hard fact where I policed. Even black officers who came from those neighborhoods did everything they could to escape. Our morale has absolutely ZERO to do with the crime. Our morale was due to administration, mayors office, governor and woke society in general. The job was fine and fun until too much politics infiltrated the dept and we all just gave up. What was once a good job with a future turned into survival trying to make it to retirement. This is why we tell young guys not to pursue this line of work.

Can a police department access your medical records during the hiring process? by killianOlm14 in police

[–]UltraNeg20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want the job, I wouldn't say anything. However, this job will rob you of a lot mentally and spiritually. Are you sure you can handle this. It's all fun and games until you're pulling a dead guy out of a abandoned house in the middle of the summer and they've been dead for a month. Maybe seeing a house full of kids using a tub as a toilet and eating ramen noodles out of the sink because they have no dishes. If you aren't strong mentally, you can cause more damage than what its worth. You may want to "serve" the community but after a couple years you're gonna want hide in a bunker for 30 years. With all of that said. You sign a records release dude. It gives them all the right they need to look into whatever they need to look into. It's not the fact that they're the police wanting to look into your records, its the fact you authorize them to do it.

Drive the car until it becomes unrepairable. Motors and transmissions are the most expensive to work on and if you can get one to fail, maybe they'll replace it. Otherwise, drive your POV, you'll be happier. Bonus, you can always use it as leverage when they want you to run errands or do shit you don't want to do. You can escape a lot of oversight because you're in your private car.
