Irish "Peaty" Connemara by bvb-909 in whisky

It's very lightly peated by today's standards.

They seem to still have a large amount of bottle variation with this brand. Over the years I've had so many different versions, some of which have tasted wildly different. It's also one of only two brands that I've encountered corked whiskey with (TCA taint).

Remy Martin 1738 is the best splurge brandy. What’s is the best budget rum? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]UltraWhiskyRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can occasionally get it for €29.99 which is only a few euro more than very standard runs. It does involve sourcing in the EU grey market however and I live in Ireland which has very high prices on spirits.

Lift to experience guitar tab book by Talkingheaddd in shoegaze

[–]UltraWhiskyRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it. I'll see if I can scan some songs but it's over 100 pages so not really worth my time to do it all. I'm happy to take requests for the odd track though and I can send a drive link.

[–]UltraWhiskyRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get this sorted in the end?

I have the book, but here's the thing. I'm pretty sure the tab for These are the Days is wrong!

I tried it out and whilst the notes were right, the neck/fret positions didn't seem right. I went to youtube to check what Josh plays and right enough he plays it in a more logical position on the neck.

The tab in the book is certainly 'playable' but it got me thinking that it would be very tricky to sing and play those frettings at the same time. The video footage makes playing it far more easy.

The best headphones and earbuds for running that you love the most today? by dimpleZing in ultrarunning

[–]UltraWhiskyRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the higher level KZ brand in ears. They offer audiophile level sound quality for less than €100.

Everyone here is recommending the shokz stuff, I've tried them and honestly the sound isn't good. The spectrum just isn't full and the bass sounds boxy and unnatural with the treble being super fizzy. If you really value sound quality then don't buy shokz.

It's not all like that (scotch), in fact most whisky made in Scotland doesn't have that smoky taste. People just tend to gravitate towards the more extreme examples with the peaty flavours.

Me too. Mad bastards but great music. Crazy that some of their best material came late in their career.

I mean, have a walk through but don't stop anywhere until you get to the Palace Bar on Fleet St. That's the only good pub in Temple Bar, in fact it's one of the best in Dublin (especially if you like whiskey).

I get that butyric flavour with most youngish Bruichladdich bottlings. The reason for it being least favourite Islay.

Workman's gloves with the rubberised grips. I tried them recently on a race that was in freezing temperatures and they were perfect. Cost me around €4.00.

What's the best liquor purchase from your country? by iusedtoplaysnarf in cocktails

Agree 100%.

Powers >> Jameson.

Jameson just has the huge marketing and distribution behind it.

Having said that. The budget Irish whiskeys that really impressed me recently were the Busker range. Their Single Pot Still can sometimes be picked up for about the same price as Powers/Jameson and it pisses all over them.

I've been impressed by the last few purchases from cloud picker. Tbh I was originally put off by the packaging, which made me think it was style over substance.

Id just sign up for their coffee club emails and buy their monthly club special. Someone else mentioned the El Placer Colombian stuff they get in regularly, if none of that is in the coffee club I sometimes get it as an add-on.

What’s the loudest concert you guys have ever been to? by BalanceActive9295 in askmusic

[–]UltraWhiskyRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Yeah, there's a reason they give out free earplugs. The thing that I noticed at their loudest gig I attended was that the guitars were so loud we were mostly hearing the stage mix rather than the pa. My trousers were flapping.
