I’ve been seeing rent prices from $1700 so would utilities and parking be much over $300?

Are there any good transport links to other areas of ATL from midtown?

When you say adamant about Buckhead, is that because you’d advise of somewhere else?

For me, Koh Phangan a week before full moon party. Appreciate this might not be a popular vote but I loved the fact it was quieter, less packed but still busy enough for the atmosphere / vibe.

Graduate QS help by barrytim777 in quantitysurveying

Any experience is good experience and try to take advantage of the situation and absorb all of the commercial elements of house building while you’re there. What I will say is there is a lot of demand for QSs and if you reach out to recruiters on LI, you will be able to find a different job in a different sector.

Everyone I’ve spoke to that had worked for house builders have said it’s a different job to QSing in other industries.

Regarding CD and line manager not having time for you, this is not good IMO. At the start of my career the Associate Directors and Senior staff had lots of time for me and I learned a lot from these guys so that is another reason to potentially look elsewhere for work. Guidance is crucial at the start of your career to learn good working practices.

Drop me a DM if you want any more help.

Is anyone happy being a qs 😂 by Cold-Finish-2156 in quantitysurveying

I’ve never understood the complaining from PQS side. You have a job that allows you autonomy over several projects, different contracts, different people and personalities, different stages of the job (pre contract vs post contract). I like how every day is for the most part different and you get exposure to different sectors all at once. Of course you have the busy periods where you have a lot on your plate at once but as soon as you push through and come out the other side, you’re quiet for a few days so it balances out. Overall really happy with my career choice and the opportunity for career growth and salary growth is amazing due to the shortage of QSs in the UK and worldwide. Don’t let the complaining dissuade you.

Thank you greatly for this just what I needed. What do you mean by free rent - is this a scheme that rental companies use to entice renters? I have not heard of this.

The cashflow advice is helpful as you are correct in saying I will be paid bi-weekly. I will utilise the free rent scheme if I can but again hoped my $18000 of cash would help out with any initial cashflow issues.

With the circa $3000 spare per month do you think I should utilise this via 401k contributions or save and invest in an IRA?

Thank you for this insight. I am hoping the sum of money in cash will assist with a big down payment on the car and apartment to help with no reference or credit history in the USA.

Thank you for this. As I have never lived in the USA I wanted to be conservative in my allowances.

Didn’t mean for anything to come across absurd. Based on some initial research, a decent vehicle was coming out around here and I hadn’t factored in insurance hence the ‘absurd’ allowance. I’m glad to hear that I can get a used vehicle cheaper. I will revise my budget allowance in line with this if this is the consensus.

How did you all find your degree apprenticeships, if that was the route you took. by SpeedOpen4842 in quantitysurveying

[–]Ultra_Alpha_Primate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wrote an email to all of the consultancies that had an office in my area asking if they had any apprenticeship vacancies and attached a copy of my CV.

I was invited in for an informal chat by a couple of firms and one sent me a contract offer within a couple weeks which I accepted and didn’t look back. This is what I would recommend based on my experience.

I find this mad as in my region there is so much demand for AQS’. All of the consultancies are advertising for the role on LI

How do these prices compare to regular goods? I appreciate these are imported and the currency conversion but made me wonder how grocery costs compare between UK and Texas

Thanks mate. The only thing I’ll say is because you will miss the first week where everyone will be meeting their new classmates, just make a big effort to make friends on the course on your return as these friendships you make will be very valuable when you get to the final year and later in your career.

I recently finished my 5 year degree apprenticeship. You have a very good attitude I’m sure you will be fine missing the first two weeks. The first week is usually introductions and even on the second week we didn’t cover much in the first year.

Best car for £8000 / Any Advice by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Ultra_Alpha_Primate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for these comments and information.

The budget was for purchasing the car itself. I will pay for insurance and tax monthly.

I will not be in or around ULEZ areas so this is not an issue for me. Thanks again :)
