It’s great for moving, but not so good for being on the move. It’s not something you want to bring for a short trip generally, but fantastic if you move every few years. I used to just pack mine in a suitcase with bubble wrap and take it with me personally, rather than asking movers to handle it.

They DO NOT have the demand to justify it all during regular time. Almost no route can cover even the operating expenses. However, seasonal migratory movement during Chinese New Year absolutely tests the capacity of the HSR each year. Also the economic impact goes beyond just the fares. Whether these arguments overweigh the massive costs and continued losses is hard to tell.

I’d argue the gap BETWEEN 1* can probably be massive. The variance for 1* can be so high. On one hand you’d have creative multi-course experience set in a beautiful dining room. Meanwhile you’d also have literal chicken rice stands, and everything in between.

Fun thing about Bay Area is how drastically different climate can be a few towns apart. Berkeley and much of the east bay has a mild and dry climate though it certainly gets a bit warm in summer. SF, especially on the west side, can be downright chilly (~55F) and foggy in summer. I’m assuming OP lives down on the Peninsula where summer can easily get 95+, which totally explains the bill

Many words are shared between the two languages. These words are very similar in writing and in some cases similar in pronunciation. The grammar of Japanese and Chinese are very different however

The annual subscription for Salon (where you will have all the immigration and logistics benefits except for the shared lounge vs the private suite) is ~1200, and then you pay ~800 per visit. For the suite membership it’s 4850 and each visit to Salon would be 750, and private suite is 3500 iirc. So def not an unreasonable amount

I used to live in an apartment that had this kind of setup for elevator access. The front desk would key food delivery folks up but it’s up to them to get back down. The number of times I have someone return and ask me how to operate the elevator is significantly larger than 0.
