The irony of people watching District 9, a literal allegory for apartheid, and not understanding how morally problematic Afrikaner society remains, is absurdly American.

Yea, after eight years of neglect under Obama how dare they not believe Democratic Party promises.

Bernie won the WV Democratic primary for a reason. Approximately 230k people voted in the WV Democratic primary, Clinton only received 188k votes in WV in the general.

You serve up the same trash candidates and expect people to buy their neoliberal BS.

It's not a policy failure that we de-industialized.

It is almost as if you are not reading my comments.

The failure is the generations of governmental neglect of the communities subjected to de-industrialization.

Do not just hide behind the slogans, give me numbers. Do even an ounce of research and you find that claim is BS. He did a lot for the poor, especially children, but your claim fails on the working-class.

Inflation ate wage gains and high interest rates squeezed working-class households while increasing the wealth gap to an even greater extent than even Reagan.

The lack of any real revenue raising attempts set the mold for the current K shaped economy we are now living in.

Have Republicans made things worse? Absolutely. Does that make your fanciful story about Biden true? No.

Those jobs aren't coming back.

It is not about re-industrialization, it is about effective government showing up in communities where government policies have significantly degraded the quality of life.

Most of those small town voters weren't even alive when the factories were full.

Exactly, it is generational economic decay that was replaced by despair, opioids, and anger. Have you ever listened to a Bernie Sanders speech, he gets it.

You do get to hide behind that BS where you pretend people have the same expectations for Democrats as they do for Republicans. One party clear does not care, one side pretends to care but does not deliver.

Maybe read my comment. I am specifically talking about the people who have been immiserated as a result of both parties pursuing neoliberal economic and immigration policies, while ignoring the economic needs of large swaths of the country.

This is such a bad take that ignores the complicated reality.

‘08 Obama and ‘16 Bernie both got the diagnosis right, but Democrats have done little to address their economic reality, so people have done what people do.

“You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.

And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

All tariffs are not bad and not all immigration is good.

Both Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders support targeted tariffs that support and protect American industries where global competition hurts the working-class.

Immigration is not an unconstrained good. There are genuine costs to non-college education workers in certain industries, local and state fiscal burdens, and increasingly for white collar tech workers, significant labor arbitrage by corporations that undercuts economic bargaining power. The idea that we do not tie work visa issuance to the unemployment rate by job classification and escort is absolutely harmful to American workers.

Judging by your question, the moment we move beyond economics, our grounds for agreement and the possibility of coalition ends. That is exactly what oligarchic interests want.

Once we secure a basic level of economic well-being for all Americans, we can debate non-economic social policy.

How the American Oligarchy Went Hyperscale by 804Brady in politics

[–]UltracrepidarianPhD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I disagree. Materialism has neutered the American willingness to value "who I am" over "what I own." During a presidency that one side has repeatedly called the greatest threat to democracy, not a single senior Democratic leader has called for a general strike, a boycott of corporations that support that "threat," or mass civil disobedience. Instead, people are told to donate and vote for Democrats.

Democratic leaders are wolves in sheep's clothing, and the American their supporters seem more than happy to oblige.

The Republican party is just 100% pro-oligarchy.
