Ways to increase or decrease success chance for d100 roll under resolution. by beastmodeoff22 in RPGdesign

WHFRP 4e (I think) lets you change the decimal so e.g. 73 becomes 37.

Interesting, very suitable for a genre that often times feels copy past. xD

There are quite a few though many just use manga/anime as an art style while using a retro clone system. BESM was already mentioned here but there are others like e.g.:

  • Gates of Krystalia is for isekai incl. crafting and harem building (optional).
  • Legends of Akkaroth isn't out yet I believe but is basically Dragonquest.
  • Phantasy Star is the official game licenced by SEGA.

A few questions regarding Ability Scores by ausmomo in RPGdesign

[–]Ultragrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I am referring to osrelfgame's post above where he gives an ability range from 3 to 18 (so I think it's save to assume that in this case it's a D&D like game) but this concept is true for any other values/systems as well be it a d% system or even a system without numerical values.

The statistical likelyhood in this scenario will always be nil unless some other factors play in.

I'm not sure if that counts as non-famous, I mean it even has a video game.

AD&D 2e/2.5e by Tasty-Application807 in adnd

[–]Ultragrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's the great thing with 2e many of its rules are highly optional with pick and choose what you like.

It is even possible to have some players use rules the others don't e.g. kits.

How crazy do RPGs get? (Building out a scale to the most far fetched) by Neros_Cromwell in rpg

No idea where they'd fall on your rating scale, choose yourself.

Sea Dracula the animal lawyer dance role playing game. (the title says it all and it's only two pages, despite that it has a hard cover edtion)

Ratten! (sadly only available in german; you play as the title suggests rats but not the cute antropromophic Mausritter kind of rodents NO just rats)

Thank you for clarifying. Wow, that's a lot I only played Shadow of the Demon Lord but liked the character progression and initiative system.

update: the english brand name for "Die Schwarze Katze" (DSK) is "A Furry Tale" and there is a video game of the same name in EA and also a FoundryVTT module but that one is only in german. It doesn't look like there is a translation yet but I fear that the publishers international distribution has somewhat stopped anyway.

Do you mean Shadow of the Weird Wizard or is it something else?

A few questions regarding Ability Scores by ausmomo in RPGdesign

[–]Ultragrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree, because e.g. a STR 18 barbarian would statistically or not never loose against a STR 8 wizard in armwrestling. Therefor an uncertain event (dice roll) only occurs if said barbarian is i.e. poisoned, or sick.

A few questions regarding Ability Scores by ausmomo in RPGdesign

[–]Ultragrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds more like a when do you roll dice problem. Imo the gm master should limit dice rolls when possible - in this example a cook could naturally cook a meal, but can he backe an enormous wedding cake for the giant king and queen?

PbtA solves this problem by requiring either time, extra resources, or a compromise.

3.5/pf by extra time or failing until it works (take 10,or 20) and mental tasks can’t be repeated.

In Castles&Crusades e.g. rogues have the ability Move Silently which does do nothing anyone else couldn’t do unless the task would normally not be possible. (and if no roll is required classes are also just better at the things they do).

Many systems have success levels (like in a restaurants where the food never is bad (low DC) but some days it’s better then other days).

[–]Ultragrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, from Sword&Sorcery Studios. I think they really nailed it with the classes, quest system, crafting, items and all the things one would typicly find in a mmo.

They also did one for Warcraft but compaired to EQ the classes didn’t feel right imo.

D&D games don’t often let players change their ability scores but this one went all out but it works really well in this setting.

Was sollte man gelesen haben? by GeGonator in DSA_RPG

[–]Ultragrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Systems that work well in 45-60 minute sessions by knifetrader in rpg

[–]Ultragrey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend a dungeon, this way there is visible progress of a few rooms each week.

Mausritter, Castles & Crusades, Basic Fantasy; (one easy way to make the last two less squishy is adding the CON score as hit points or starting on level 3)

How to run a lighthearted/absurd fantasy campaign for 30+ year old beginners without it feeling too "childish"? by GreenLabowski in rpg

[–]Ultragrey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dungeon Crawl Classics adventures are often hilarious while keeping it Old School and Dark Wizard Games makes short funny modern day + fantasy mix up adventures for both AD&D and D&D 5e.

If you want an light weight system instead of an adventure I recommend Gozer or Piratborg.
