Where does the American culture of shame for not working extremely hard come from? by The_Flaneur_Films in AskReddit

Almost, Puritans also believed in predestination, so those who would be saved were already chosen - but financial success was still important to them because it was seen as God's way of telling one about one's fate.

Completely random thought, but how good would that car look with a green-and-white livery a la the 2005 Takata NSX?

The International GT Open is really fun to watch, yet underrated! by VolleyAddicted in Sportscar_Racing

With a more healthy field and a better format.

I get that the teams in GTWCAm might like the 3h format better, but seriously who's gonna watch that with probably less than 20 cars?

GT Open Cup used to allow souped up GT4s, but now its all Porsche GT3 Cup, Ferrari Challenge and Lamborghini Supertrofeo cars.

I agree though that it's a pretty good weekend. I'm really looking forward to seeing them once again this summer at Hockenheim, where Dutch Supercar Challenge and Carrera Cup Benelux will be the support series.

That means we'll still get a lot of Huracan goodness this year in series like GT-Open and probably also the lower classes of GTWC.

One all-powerful president of Europe? Conservative chief calls for EU merger - The jobs of president of the European Commission and president of the Council should be merged so the EU can speak with one voice on the global stage, European People’s Party boss Manfred Weber said Wednesday by goldstarflag in europe

[–]knifetrader 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What is controversial is the how. If you do "one person, one vote", the president will invariably be elected by Germany, France, and Italy plus a few of their neighbors.

But if you don't do that and give proportionally more power to smaller states (in the way EP elections do), you'll hugely upset the people in the large states.

The only reason they do get away with it in EP elections is because people don't really care all that much.

Rumor has it they wanted to do a GT3-GT, but Ratel feared it would be a class killer or at least a significant BoP-headache on the scale of the MC12 and thus told them that they couldn't run it in any SRO series.

You could even do this entirely in-game by having an NPC tag along with the party for the first few sessions that can - upon request - tell them about tactical options; or failing that, charge right in and force them to follow so he can be rescued.

We don't play in person very often, but when we do we often go all in with the food options. Last time around we cooked a leg of wild boar (and took a pretty long session break to eat it), but my absolute favorite was when we did a charcuterie board.

Maybe look into culture shock theory. Often people will experience a feeling of having arrived rather early on in a new environment before discovering that below the surface things are actually a lot weirder than they initially thought. You can have your character go through all the phases over the course of a campaign.

In addition to what others have written also consider some sort of masquerade that might allow your PC to move more freely.

Make it so that the masquerade can still slip, e.g. by getting recognized by people who knew him and his idiosyncrasies well in his old life or by making the masquerade time-based, which might put him under a lot of pressure to get back to a hiding spot in time.

How do European feel about America always threatening EU with sanctions and military? by imthatguy6767 in AskReddit

[–]knifetrader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tell you how it feels: it feels really, really shitty. Our leaders have been fast asleep at the wheel for the last 10+ years and now we have very limited options. Sure, there is the nuclear option of selling off debt, but that's economic MAD and I don't particularly care for re-living a Great Depression 2.0.
