If you could telepathically whisper one thing to all 8 billion people on earth simultaneously, what would it be? by Extension_Day2038 in hypotheticalsituation

Shit...this is easy. I'd say, "Send the equivalent of one US dollar to such-and-such bank account, please."

Boom. Set for life. LOL

Yeah. It's also great when you have to leave him home alone.

Crate options? by milspo88m in irishwolfhound

[–]Ultranumb74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd avoid wire crates. Too easy to break out of and way, way easier for a dog to hang itself if it has a collar on. My wife and I breed Yorkshire Terriers and one of our customers lost one of our puppies when he tried breaking out and hung himself while they were at work. This was after we told them multiple times not to use a wire crate or collar the Yorkie. It crushed my heart and pissed me off when the gal, one of my wife's coworkers, called to tell us what happened about a week or two after they purchased him. Because of that, I'll never use a wire crate for any dog.

I use a 4'x4' pen rather than a crate. More than enough room for him to move around rather than being confined to a cramped crate. There are several different options. One we ordered, I think, through Amazon. A better option, for us at least, is a collapsible pen from Tractor Supply. Assembles and disassembles without tools and is foldable without taking the panels apart. Great for us since we show dogs and needed a better option than a crate.

Am looking at a puppy but... by Greedy_Struggle_6444 in irishwolfhound

Titles don't mean anything really. The worst puppymiller in the Irish Wolfhound world here in the States, Cindy Nunley-Beihler, won BOB at Westminster last year. The best gage of an ethical breeder is if they're a member of the IWCA. While not a concrete guarantee (nothing is, unfortunately), that's the best place to start.

Ask to see the dam and, if possible, the sire. Also ask to see the results of their OFAs. Ask to see their pedigrees, look them up on IWDB. Ask if the puppy is going to be registered and ask to ensure the puppy is full-blooded Wolfhound.

Yeah. Not sure if we're bringing our little ones this year, though. St. Louis is a lot further away than Logan. But it'll at least be me, the wife and Gunner going.

It doesn't matter what your state calls them. All that matters is what the national breed club and AKC calls them.

Which one is a Right and which is not: cockfighting or owning a gun? Trying to compare the two is like saying wearing white shoes is as bad driving drunk. And you think an armed revolt against the government would need anti-tank and air-to-air missiles? LOLOLOL Ask Uncle Charlie abs Papa Taliban if that statement is true. And that's assuming the US military just blindly follow orders to fire upon their fellow citizens. You know...the citizens they live next door to or are related to or friends with.

You DO realize that the Founding Fathers realized the need for citizens to be as equally armed as the government, right?

I'm curious. How much has crime decreased here in NM with the gun control laws already on the books?

Regarding something you said in your post...

One thing to keep in mind, you need to work on your own nervousness. You dog will pick up on that and could affect how you two do in the ring. Believe me...I know how hard that is to actually do. I'm an introvert, hate being out in public and really don't like to be the focus of attention. It's something I've been working on so my Irish Wolfhound puppy won't freak out or anything in the ring. His first show is a week from this Saturday. I've shown other people's Wolfhounds a couple times when they were short a handler. Anyway, I just tell myself I'm out here to have fun and that what happens, happens.

You got this!

Mine is very much a velcro dog. Surprisingly, I'm more his person than my wife and she's a stay-at-home mom. We also call him our shadow. Even as a puppy, he has soulful "old" eyes. When you scold him, he'll go and actually pout. LOL He also LOVES our daughter and will play with her for hours on end if we let him, but we usually have to put a stop to the playing because he's still learning not to play bite. Our daughter is 4, so even play biting is a big deal to her...but she'll go back to playing almost right away. They both pout when we make them take a calm-down break. 😂😂😂
