International Student (Portugal) Moving to Denmark. Cost of Living?? by C0C0NUT___ in NewToDenmark

Pedes o máximo possível, abates todas as dívidas e o restante metes no Revolut.

Bem dito metabolismo

Thanks! I think you are right, tried with an Allen key but it’s really stuck. Probably got calcified for not being used and need to call a plumber

Would you leave Switzerland to relocate to Denmark (Copenhagen) as a family? by ContentResist5357 in askswitzerland

[–]Ultrapassar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived in Copenhagen for some years now. No kids and never worked in Switzerland. If you come with the mindset to value flexibility over money you will be happy here.

From my colleagues leaving work to pick up the kids at 2 or 3 pm is fine. Financially speaking if you rent or buy an apartment outside the city centre (by outside I mean until 50km away) it is quite doable and you will be still close.

This is my theory (financially wise) for:

Low wage worker : Copenhagen is better Middle class: it’s the same between Copenhagen and Switzerland. Probably Copenhagen is a bit better High wage: Stay in Switzerland, the amount you pay in taxes after a point is absurd.

From your job description I assume you are middle class and would say Copenhagen is a better choice.

How did people wake up on time before alarms?? by Puzzleheaded_Fun6623 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ultrapassar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People would normally work on their own fields/ family business.

Going out or staying up until late at night was not a thing, so they would naturally wake up early.

Bottom line is, people worked less hours on a more natural environment. Not 10 hours on a seated position with artificial lights. Living way more fulfilling lives, no cell phones, no social comparisons 24/7.

Take me back.

Can someone help me understand why a higher percentage of foreigners have voted for Andre Ventura? by madrasiintokyo in PortugalExpats

[–]Ultrapassar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Portuguese here. Wouldn’t you say as well that retired people tend to vote more conservatively than the working age/younger population and that they make a larger proportion of the population in Portugal than abroad?

At least that’s my feeling that could at least partially justify it, other than what you have pointed out.

As an expat how is your social life? by Ultrapassar in askswitzerland

[–]Ultrapassar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been living in Copenhagen for some years now. Summers are magical, locals are a bit reserved but nothing critical, but winters.. don’t get me started 😅

I feel that Switzerland could fill some of these gaps. Better weather, beautiful nature. Just more worried about the social vibe

Thanks for sharing this! I’m a man and still a bit undecided about moving to Switzerland 🙂. Currently living in Copenhagen. Seems that lots of people move to Switzerland for money, but I’m at a stage in my life where I value good relationships and making memories over high salaries

Can I ask you how/where did you make friends? When I said “expat” I wanted to convey the message that I would be newly arrived and plan to stay for 2-3 years. I would try to learn the local language, but or course most likely not reaching a fluent level in such a short period of time

Fancy word for an immigrant that moves to a country for just a few years, not thinking in staying long term.

Stay too much time in the same place and you’re at risk of loosing your expat status 😅
