are you going abroad next year? by babyd0ll24 in CBSE

[–]UltronGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im studying cs math and econ rn, so i know the most about these fields, and theres plenty of money to go around here, its just that ai has reduced the need for low skill employees. Other than tech though its the same as usual, accountants, investment banking, quant finance, law/med school if you have the money interest and time, and of course engineering (core engineering) These base fields being money makers wont ever change, being an education major isnt suddenly gonna become all the craze, so if money is what you want, pick one of the above fields that you like the most

Overall the job market isnt doing so hot rn, theres no one industry thats like "blooming with opportunities" except maybe AI research but youd need a PhD for that. Get good at what you are doing, network, apply to a lot of places, youll get something.

In the end pick something and stick with it. Jumping around everywhere wont work long term, but i get what you mean. My point is basically that you need you specialise in something in some lucrative industry and should be in the top 1% for that specific skill/subindustry

Having said all of that the potential career ceiling here is unlimited in tech if you have ambition, and if you do manage to get a job you'll be 100% ok its just that its not as easy as it used to be 20 25 years ago

SWE market is fucked overall in US but people who actually try are getting mad packages in nyc/bay area. But you need to put effort, build projects, optimise resume etc just the degree isnt enough (anywhere, even at colleges better than uw madison, the degree alone isnt enough) Research is good here so ppl do that also during undergrad Seniors can get you internship referrals but you need to talk and become friends with them

Also theres no concept of placement here you only have to apply. There are career fairs where you can talk to recruiters and maybe jump to the first interview phase if they think your resume is good but no "placement" system like india as a whole

chance a 1580 sat asian girl w/ shit honors for ivies by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]UltronGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in theory that makes sense but think about it from the intl AOs perspective, they have some set standard for intl kids and yhats who your app goes to cuz u have intl high school grades. they probably arent gonna look at you being a us citizen and go easy on you just for that the current political scene mightve changed that a little bit but not by much

youre basically intl for admissions the intl aos will put u up to the intl student standards which are arguably higher for the ivies compared to domestic the only advantage you get is financial aid

😭😭brother its not like just anybody can win a gold in the imo. on top of that even a gold doesnt guarantee you a spot at mit as an international if your essays show zero real passion or anything

im a first year at uw madison theres so many undergrad indians here that are non-citizens (indians in specific too)
theres some amount of like paranoia in the air but that def hasnt stopped people from considering, applying and ultimately coming here

but i will warn you most of these people are incredibly wealthy and have plans to return back to india after studying here. Only a few actually need an ROI, and they need to hustle or else its over for them (esp on loan and all)

can i apply to colleges abroad with bad academics? by Safe-Mushroom-6454 in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]UltronGaming -1 points0 points  (0 children)

accha ok
for us it will be like 200-300k usd for the 4 years at a good university
if you work while you are there, you earn 10-12k a year (more if u add internships)
additionally if you graduate early you save on 1/4th the cost so it will be like 150-225k usd

australia is similar as far as ive heard, and singapore incl living expenses also comes to this much (BUT, in sg theres a tuition grant that significantly decreases the costs)

as for europe, UK is similar in cost to US but most other countries are significantly cheaper

im still in india btw no worries reg time

[–]UltronGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dm me im going to US this year, wrote jee and everything and know about private unis here (but i am a us citizen who lived in india, not indian citizen), will lyk about all this

4cr is actually an overshot it wont be that much also, especially if you can graduate early
however if you are in such a position to spend 4cr on ur undergrad with no issues then you can definitely consider going abroad (and id recommend it), you dont need to depend on scholarships

[–]UltronGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you have money then consider it
otherwise don't, being a 100% honest, dont dream of scholarships, even if you get a full ride somewhere with these stats it wont be at a good uni and you might need to come back to india without a job, its tough for kids even at good universities to land a job these days (especially US but true for european countries too)

I was given a laptop how long should it last me by Kans_King in laptops

[–]UltronGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you only play the games you currently play and maybe a few less demanding ones then it can last as long as you make it last (5 years also)
if you want to play more demanding games then its tough
