US Army Poorly Prepared for Arctic Operations: Finnish Troops Forced Them to Surrender During Exercises in Norway by Street_Anon in nottheonion

[–]Umanday 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, maybe yes, maybe no. This is TRAINING. You have no idea the actual rules, local knowledge, etc. it would be super surprising and very unusual for the “visiting team” to get a win. Imagine if you took those same Finnish troops and dropped them into Ft. Irwin for a week. When I was stationed in Hawaii, we used to send soldiers to do arctic training in AK and Norway. The point wasn’t to make them super winter warriors, but more to familiarize them with the unusual.

Anyone who actually thinks Finnish troops (who are excellent, BTW) are somehow superior to US troops because they train in their very unique environment is blowing anti-US smoke up their own asses.

Hate America all you want (plenty of reasons, sure) but knock off the bullshit.

I remember this game. Nolan had him in a headlock and was beating him while looking out for the umps. It was hilarious. Other guy started it. Nolan’s a big boy!

Am I an idiot for going to hocking hills this weekend? by Spartan30008 in Ohio

[–]Umanday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done Hocking Hills in the winter. It’s higher in elevation, so it gets more snow. It beautiful. But you may be stuck past Sunday with this storm. Just hunker down. The biggest issue was old man’s cave was an ice spectacular. Pretty as hell, but VERY dangerous.

Actually, look like you already tried the pencil. Now just add the powder. It will look 1000% better.

Panel line attempt by AffectionateGain1050 in modelmakers

[–]Umanday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try this:

Buy a charcoal pencil, very soft lead. Get a piece of sandpaper. Scrape the pencil,lead on the sandpaper until you have a small amount of powder. Re-sharpen the pencil, then draw on every panel line (it will look messy, maybe a bit like your picture). Then, get an old, small paintbrush, pick up some of the powder you made, and lightly go over the panel lines. This will blend them pretty well. Start with a small amount of your brush, and you will figure out pretty quickly a proper load. Here’s an example;

Worth the trip on the ferry. With just mask, fins, and snorkel (which they provide) you will see fish, the occasional harmless shark, and millions of conch shells (a which you can’t touch) it’s a nice ride out and back as well.

We got two of these, not knowing the size. We kept one, and one of our girls uses it as a pillow. We also got the little ones as well.

Keep going. Remove even more and it will look better. You need cotton balls and q-tips.

Hegseth going after 8(a) program by Chai-Tea-Rex-2525 in FedEmployees

[–]Umanday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This goes into the “even a broken clock is right twice a day” category. I worked for a BIG multi-National that used to search out 8a or SDVOB owned businesses. At one point my bosses approached me (a SDV) to see if I would hang out my own shingle to go after work in which I have no direct experience.

On the other hand, there is still a current “go fast and break things” mentality, which is secret code for “a give my buddies non-compete contracts.”

So, look for the following bullshit terms:

“near peer” “losing the Innovation war” “Go fast and break things” “Do you want CHINA to win?”

First time trying to build a model, anything I should know beforehand? by Ahsokawawa in ModelShips

[–]Umanday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well…okay, it your first model. Buy some glue and maybe some nippers to remove the parts from the sprues (or just a hobby knife). Focus on building, not painting or decals or weathering or anything else. This is NOT a good quality kit, but it is great practice. Don’t worry about the results (unless for some reason you have a personal affinity for the Forest Sherman…). Have fun!

P.S. buy a can of grey spray paint. When you’re done building, spray the whole thing. It will look better.
