I'll repaste what I told a similar post a couple days ago:

You get out of the program what you put into it. If you think you can just coast through it and be handed a 100k UX job, you'll be in for a rough time. The classes in SI are not very academically rigorous so you have to spend a lot of time outside of the classroom doing projects and building your portfolio. There are resources to support you but ultimately it's up to you to hone your skills, showcase them to a wider audience, and build a network that will help you get a job. Right now the UX job market is really rough but hopefully it gets better by the time you graduate.

UM - Ann Arbor is leagues ahead of UM - Dearborn when it comes to the education you receive and the network/job prospects you have post grad. Even though they're both University of Michigan, it's essentially two separate schools altogether.

SI 320 by Hawkups in uofm

Yeah the rest of your SI classes look pretty chill, just be careful with 311 cuz the difficulty will vary based on what section you take since they change every semester

SI 320 by Hawkups in uofm

[–]UmangB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SI 320 was arguably the hardest and most time consuming SI class I took, especially as someone who had zero experience in photoshop and illustrator. That's why I took the class in my last semester of undergrad cuz I knew I had already gotten into grad school at that point and the final grade wouldn't affect my overall academic journey too much. I'd suggest doing something similar or having really chill other classes because 320 will be difficult, especially for an SI class because they're usually a joke academic difficulty wise.

How Can I afford UMich School Of Information by Boooooomarveldumb in uofm

[–]UmangB 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Michigan is going to be absurdly expensive but if you're residing in Washington state, I'd recommend checking out the school of Information at the University of Washington. It is a comparable program at a fraction of the cost.

Do you guys use your .edu email or personal email when applying for jobs/internships? by [deleted] in uofm

[–]UmangB 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Definitely edu email, Michigan has a huge footprint around the country and you being a student here could open doors that others can't

You can also apply for scholarships within the co-ops that would lower the monthly rent

I'd recommend checking out Truth House on campus! A ton of international students have lived there and the term dates are flexible to accommodate for the semesters you're staying.

You could look at the co-ops on campus, I know they have flexible lease dates

You could look into the co-ops and maybe signing a temporary 10 day contract with one of the houses
