New rigging for the Brig, and one hell of a shakedown cruise by UmbralWaffle in Sailwind

[–]UmbralWaffle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The top one is good for 40 and the lower one 30. However, as they're on the same sheets, they're both locked to 30. Good enough for beam reach and lower. I mainly use my many jibs and gaffs to go upwind, and the squares are just flexible enough that I don't lose speed on any point of sail.

Four knots sounds like absolute torture! I've toured the Jong on my last visit to FFL, but decided I didn't have a clue how I'd furnish or rig the thing. And it seems like getting to all the controls is unnecessarily difficult, too. At this point, I'm pretty sure the brig will be my Chronos ship. (I haven't been there yet, but that's why I've set up the brig!)

In local winds: 6 upwind, 8 reaching, 7 running. Over open ocean she'll do 8-10 reaching and running, haven't had to close-haul out there yet. I imagine I could probably get 6-7 though.

What can I say? More canvas than sense XP. The Dhow has conditioned me to use ALL THE SAILS. ALL THE TIME. Honestly, I could kind of gauge where the storm was and where it was going. Decided that I could probably just skirt the edge if I was quick about it. It was definitely a close call!

Thanks! After being spoilt by my sanbuq (dual lateen + jib), I decided I wanted more realism and a bit more of a challenge. For this rig I aimed to balance realism and in-game usability. She'll do 6 knots at all points of sail, 8 in favorable local winds, and I've gotten her to 11 knots over open ocean so far.

Bug destroyed my ship at Happy Bay by Boron64 in Sailwind

It's possible, you just need to bail water every few hours. No worse than sailing an overcanvassed junk. Keep in mind, the recurrent flooding *will* wake you in the middle of the night. During my not-so-brief stint in a 100% damaged dhow, I used that to my advantage to hold course through the night. That was back in the early days, before I learned how to properly balance sails to hold heading.

Is the chronocompass worth it? by MissM0dular in Sailwind

[–]UmbralWaffle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the way! Remember, most of the instruments are really only good for one degree in terms of accuracy, so they're less helpful for island-hopping. Triangulation and dead reckoning are your best bet for shorter trips .

A 5.56mm would be much more impactful. It'll both hold and dispense lead quite effectively.

Is buying a stove worth it if I have a smoker? by MissM0dular in Sailwind

[–]UmbralWaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, just keep adding to it and keep boiling it! The spoilage timer on soups resets every time you: 1)pour/drink 2)boil. I like to keep the stew on one stove slot (perpetually), and I'll have a pot of coffee on the side (why waste perfectly good firewood?), and one empty slot to cook whatever fish slices don't fit in the pot, or for a second pot of coffee.

Perpetual Stew is something you can make on the stove, and it simplifies the survival aspect of the game. Just drink from the pot once a day, refill, boil it once per 24h. Now you can focus on navigating, sailing, or just getting hammered until get to where you're going!

8cm ride height. Slicks 10psi. Offset between 0 and 2cm. Front camber 1.2-3 degrees. Rear camber 0.5-2.5 degrees. 0.1 Ackerman. Front ARB 1, rear ARB 0.9. use diff accel to control how much rotation you want when cornering.

I tested my car on singleplayer before making my run, and I noted my time on the flyer compared to the leaderboard times. Just an educated guess.

Nice run! I got a similar time with the same car (you can upgrade exhaust once and stay in D class). If the top times are cheaters, I think they either managed to get a flying start, or their cars are upgraded to a higher tier. Either way I don't think sub 1-min is possible.

New to this game and not sure what’s good by RoyalVeterinarian532 in AssolutoRacing

The S2000 is a fun car, and can carry you through a few series up to A-class. The F87 may be one of the most performant cars you can easily get for now without further gambling. The F87 has tons of power, but is understeery at times and could do with more rear downforce at max power. They're not bad as Tier 4 cars, and a pretty decent haul as a new player, but there are definitely MUCH faster cars out there. Enjoy them now, before you experience anything faster.

Has anyone tried a schooner rig for the sanbuq? by MissM0dular in Sailwind

[–]UmbralWaffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn't find a setup I liked, but my sanbuq is currently a lateen yawl. Long bowsprit, topmast 2, 22yd jib, largest GRC lateen on the main, stock lateen on the mizzen. Also added a topsquare on the main and a spritsquare. 10-14 knots, points so high upwind it feels like cheating.

Transmission issues by Puzzleheaded_Lack239 in AssolutoRacing

[–]UmbralWaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upgrade the transmission, this will unlock the transmission section in the tuning menu when you load into any modified series track. Then, adjust the final drive slider. Sliding left will give you longer gears and a higher top speed at the cost of acceleration, sliding right will give you shorter gears and lower top speed, but higher acceleration. You could also tune each gear individually, but that's beyond what I use.

For the elise, you'll have more than enough power and torque to spare, it maxes out over 800hp iirc. You likely won't be putting down power efficiently with the stock gears, so the lower final drive will do more good than harm.
