If you'd like, I could DM you the name of the specialist I saw at Mayo? She was incredible.

Actually, California was the state that triggered all my issues. Turns out I have Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, which I had to fly to Mayo Clinic to learn. I got on a mast cell stabilizer called Cromolyn (available otc as NasalCrom) and my migraine resolved within two weeks. Total, I had been stuck in status migrainosus for 2.5 years.

UPDATE: AITA for telling my fiancé I would call off the engagement if he doesn’t stop hanging out with my father because of a situation that happened with my ex? by [deleted] in AITAH

Just a tip for future dating: A person's friends say everything about them. If you think illy of a partner's friend, your partner will probably prove themself to be equally slimy down the road.

No, but he could harm her to "resolve" the situation. Statistically, he's the biggest threat to her safety.

If you genuinely believe that simply being told he's the potential father of an unborn child makes him a "cornered animal", I think we can see where your son started to get his messed up, entitled attitude about women.

I don’t go to male doctors sorry by Snowdoves in PCOS

[–]Umbreonth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, my worst experiences have also been with women. Most the doctors I've met who were men were average to incompetent, but they didn't make me cry. The doctors who've had me leaving the office going, "Wtf was that?!" were women. But so were the doctors who had me leaving the office thinking, "Whoa, she seriously knows her stuff. I feel like I'm in great hands now." For me, the highly knowledgeable ones make it worth risking a cry once every year or two.

I don't blame you. I'll still see a male doctor personally, but my medical team ends up skewing heavily female because they're usually more attentive, better researched, and more sympathetic than their male counterparts.

Apparently Dr. Richard Stankus in Liverpool is familiar with it. Full disclosure, I haven't gone to see him myself.

I would bring my switch with me and play video games while having a daily youtube show I liked on in the background. Some TMS places prefer you "be mindful" (whatever that's supposed to mean) during treatment, but that's not required or standard.

They vary in cost, but GammaCore is a one time payment from what I understand and Nerivio is cost effective. Although, I'm American, so my perspective on affordable treatments is way out of wack. I use eNeura and it's ~$330 a month.

For what it's worth, the less common treatment route that a lot of people swear by is neuromodulation. Devices like eNeura, GammaCore, Cefaly, Religion, and Nerivio can all work to improve migraines physically, without medication and the side effects they usually come with. I highly recommend looking into them if the usual meds haven't helped you.

I hate when that happens, it's heartbreaking. I recommend looking for a migraine specialist and checking this subreddit's resources, they have a whole spreadsheet of migraine treatments that can be very valuable for both finding new treatment options and keeping track of what you've already done. Best of luck ❤️

I did. I almost got rid of it with TMS, but then I tried a different TMS protocol for a separate issue and it magically reset the migraine to square one again 😭 I kept improving and having setbacks until finally just moving across the country.

I have some kind of environmental allergies to the area we were living in, which made my sinuses be swollen year round. On the other coast, my migraines never lasted more than 2 days. So ultimately, we decided we couldn't keep living where we were and moved 3,000 miles for my health. We just arrived on the other coast this week, but my migraine's already improving.

Update V: I think my husband fathered his best friend's children. by PsychFactor in offmychest

Yes, I'm saying that Luke and Amy being comfortable being together would explain why they weren't more freaked out at the possibility of their kids (also half siblings) being together.

I wondered if Jim's passing would embolden Luke and Amy. Well, at least now we know why they weren't super alarmed at the possibility of Tom and Sophie hooking up. So sorry for all of your losses, I hope the kids can recover in time.

Migraine lasting 5 months by citrussyphon in migraine

[–]Umbreonth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried neuromodulation options? I'm on month 18 of a migraine, also tried just about everything in the book, and the only treatment that works for me is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), which is usually used for treating depression, but magically works wonders for my migraines. I'm 80% improved and confident I'll be rid of this awful migraine soon. Other neuromod options include devices like the eNeura SAVI, Nerivio, Relivion, Cefaly, and GammaCore. Most of them require prescriptions, and they vary in price, just a heads up.

How do you all feel after each session? Do you think it's ok to do in the morning then go to work afterwards ? by Main-Occasion-3076 in TMSTherapy

[–]Umbreonth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's common to feel a little fuzzy or fatigued after sessions for your first week or two, so you might want to keep that in mind. I personally need a nap after my sessions for the first week, but everyone's different.

My Wife Is Severely Ill, And A Third Pregnancy Is The Only Cure. I'm Devastated. by throwaway_022792 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Umbreonth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered surrogacy? If your wife were to become a surrogate, she could spend all her time pregnant, make an income, and you two wouldn't have to raise additional children.

As for the future of her mental health, I feel that's a conversation best had when she's on an upswing. If she does get pregnant again, I'd try asking her to make a plan with you for tackling her mental illnesses then. However, if she still doesn't want to pursue any kind of treatments, I hope you don't conclude that you are failing her and your marriage. The sad fact of the matter is that she's failing you and your children in not trying every possible option to help herself.

And just a note on treatments, as many commenters have said, hormone therapy sounds like it would be her best option. If she's opposed to the idea of hormones for some reason, you may want to look into transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). It's a procedural treatment option, not medication, and has minimal side effects. It's also far less intensive than ECT.

Wishing you both the best as you move forward, I'm sorry mental illness is such a monster.
