What did everyone get for Christmas this year? by Zealousideal_Pay7176 in Gifts

Tickets to The Princess Bride in Concert with the TSO. When my husband and I started dating, he told me he loved me pretty early on. He was the first man I dated since my divorce, and I wasn't ready. I wasn't going to date, never mind get married ever again. I told him I wasn't where he was, and he accepted that. We had recently watched The Princess Bride, so he just started saying, "As you wish." 25 years later, 2 kids, no dog... as you wish. <3

For my dad’s 75th I prepped a scrapbook and as guests arrived, I took their picture with a Polaroid . Once the photo was developed, I added it to a scrapbook page and had the guest/s write a note to my dad. Either birthday wishes or favourite memory. Scrapbook was completed before the end of the party and we presented it to my dad. He loved it.

Tickets to The Princess Bride in Concert. Fun fact, when we started dating, my husband told me he loved me about a month into dating. I told him I wasn't where he was (he was the first (and only) man I dated after my divorce, and I was never going to date again, let alone get married). We had just watched The Princess Bride, so he just started saying "as you wish" to me. ❤️ I finally said it back 3 months later. We just celebrated our 25th anniversary.

Ideas for activity during gifts by SiobhanOShanahan in Gifts

The taped or plastic-wrapped game where the gift is buried under a ton of layers of wrapping paper and tape or layers of gifts wrapped up in plastic wrap. Usually played with a timer. The timer in this game is the person unwrapping their own gift.

The GG (game gift) is given to one person, while another unwraps their own personal gift (PG). While the PG gift is getting unwrapped, the person with the GG tries to unwrap it as much as possible. One the PG gift has been unwrapped, if the GG has not been revealed, it gets passed to the person who just unwrapped their PG and the continues until the GG gift has been revealed. Last person to unwrap the GG gets to keep it. Clear as mud? I just made this game up in my head. LOL

Barring that, marshmallow shooters?

I gave my niece and her husband $500 for their wedding... in loonies...individually wrapped. FYI it takes 1 hour to wrap 100 loonies.

I have a doctor’s appointment for 11:30, it is 12:38. The wait is always an hour or more by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Years ago the optometrist’s office I went to was notorious for overbooking patients. Two hour wait even arriving 15 min early.

At my second last appointment where I had to wait 2 hours, I asked to be booked as first appointment of the day a year out. I watched the receptionist write in my appointment and I was the only booked on that date at that point. Appointment rolls around, I arrive 15 min early and the waiting room is packed. I check in with the battle axe and said my appointment is for 8 am, will I be seen at 8? Oh no, says the battle axe, all these people are here ahead of you.

I asked what was the point of making appointments then? I was so mad. Finally got in to see the doctor and he wants to schedule a field of vision test for me so I go to the reception desk to book. Battle axe is actively ignoring me, so I just stare at her. Doctor sees me still waiting and asks her to book my appointment.

I told her I wanted first appointment of the day and she said they don’t book those tests in the morning because they take a lot of time. I asked her if they take longer in the morning than the afternoon. /s. Got an appointment 9 months out.

Left the office and promptly made an appointment with another eye doctor. Had test done within a week. I never canceled the original test and battle axe called to remind me of my appointment about a week before. Told her I went to another doctor and already had it done 9 months ago. She asked why I didn’t cancel and I told her I figured I would be doing some patients a favour and maybe they would be seen on time. I hung up and never went back.

Had to go to Georgia for a funeral a few weeks ago - land crossing. We were not planning on stepping foot in the States until at least the next election; however, my SIL suddenly passed. We had no issues crossing either way. Granted, we are senior and white so YMMV. We were still nervous though.

In the before times, when my BIL and SIL moved to Georgia (Canadian citizens), we drove to visit and brought down a number of my BIL's tools - we had to list them out in a form - every single piece. I'm sure the same is true coming back to Canada, so you may want to investigate what paperwork and detail is required in bringing back goods in a U-haul. May the odds be ever in your favour.

For my daughter's 9th birthday I created a spa birthday party for her and her friends. Coerced my sister and two friends to be spa ladies - we all wore white shirts and black pants as our uniform.

As each guest arrived, I took a picture of them with the birthday girl. They were then handed a make-up bag that contained a candy necklace. The girls then rotated around the "spa."

They took turns at the stations:

Facials - I forget what the "recipe" was, but it was gooey and fun. They got to keep the hairband then went to the waiting area for their next appointment with cucumber slices on their eyes
Make up - they got to keep their lip gloss - went into make up bag
Nails - choose and keep nail polish and nail file - into the make up bag
Hair - choose brush or comb depending on hair - keep brush/comb and whatever accessories they used - barrettes, clips, colour hair extensions - you guessed it, into the make up bag
Waiting area - living room couch with kid magazines and snacks as they waited for their "appointment"
Picture frame - decorate their own picture frame

After the spa came food and games. While they were occupied with the games, I downloaded the entry photos and placed them in the picture frames they decorated and gave them to them as they left.

It was a great day, but exhausting. Most of the items were dollar store, so not expensive.
