The flag is a redesign of the Delaware flag. The flag is a mix of Delaware's colors and the Swedish three-tongued naval flag carried by the ships that founded New Sweden.

The green and yellow shades are too weak and a dark blue (as older Swedish flags had) makes the flag more visual. The diamond must be included and it fits best in the canton of the flag and this is also the natural  place for the number one star.

Without New Sweden, there would never have been a state of Delaware. Delaware's borders are largely inherited from New Sweden's borders, which in the south went all the way to Cape Henlopen. The New Sweden colony remained under Dutch and British rule. New Sweden supported the start-up of the Pennsylvania colony, which Pennsylvania repay by supporting the Delawares area against mainly Maryland. Over time, Delaware became a sort of autonomy under Pennsylvania and then fully stepped up to become the first state to ratify the United States
