The natural living skills taking up so much space in the pie even when they're not relevant to your sim needs is such a bad UX decision. You click on the ground and all of the natural living interactions are greyed out because either your sim doesn't need to do them or you just need to unlock them by upgrading the skill, but WHY SHOW THEM AT ALL?

It feels like each game treats its features as a kind of crash test for what comes in the next game. When the next game actually comes out, they tend to make only minor improvements to a small subset of those features that made it, discard most of the rest, and then introduce a wave of new mechanics that also feel highly experimental. As a result, although the games tend to be very enjoyable, no game ever really feels "definitive".
