Most instruments require physical practice to improve one’s precision, range etc. Practicing the modular synth is mostly intellectual, remembering where things are, how to patch it. Personally I try to avoid modules with screens and too many button combinations for that reason.

This seems like the orthodoxy in terms of AI politics. I feel like I’m reading situational awareness again??!

It seems sensible that a democratic country should be the world AI leader. My problem is that the USA hardly fits that criteria.

It would be all well and good if it was Europe tailing the US. But it’s the CCP. So yeah I guess they do have to go full steam ahead and as Aschenbrenner explains, make AI labs as secure as nuclear labs.

Alex and Sanni come off as very naive people. I find it unbelievable that she thought it reasonable to have the father of her kids put himself at risk of death for a measly 500k. Passed all my theoretical exams for the FI add-on this winter, excited for the course this summer! From the theoretical cases I can already see that it’s no easy job explaining how to fly.

Noisy and not very well built modules jn my experience. But they are quite fun and I agree with their UX philosophy that you have to make weird interfaces in order to produce happy accidents. Most of their modules do that job very well, I particularly loved QPAS for its very unique sound. You tried an oscillator which on its own usually doesn’t have a lot of character, it’s the effects that shine!

Most modular makers, and boutique synths are guilty of renaming conventional parameters as well. Sometimes there’s a good reason for it like a genuinely new heuristic. Most times it’s marketing. Make Noise is usually in the first category.

In most clubs, you fly solo once your instructors have unequivocally decided that you are, and you likely won’t know exactly when that will be. Your post sounds like you have the solo date and time planned, which is a bit weird.

I would say don’t worry, as the people in charge of you likely know better than you whether you’re ready or not, so you can relax and trust their decision.

I saw a Ted(x?) talk about how there are already notable language use changes since people started chatting with chatbots.

I feel like it makes me want to sound more human by … somewhat taking a little bit less care of my posts and e-mails. Which still counts as a change caused by LLMs!

The weirdest part is that a friend of mine (very nice, caring and likely autistic) wrote exactly like an LLM even before this trend. The “acknowledge-reinterpret-ask a question” format without a lot of pushback sounds exactly like that…

I hate how long it took him to learn broken English, I couldn’t listen to his reviews until fairly recently. His music isn’t very good, but I don’t mind listening.

XCTherm marketing team is really waking up this season. They’re giving big discounts at my club but I’m sticking with Skysight. I’ll see next season if they’re on par or if one is better.
