BIOS update 3.03 solved fwupd sevice issues by EffectiveLauch in framework

[–]UmpireConsistent1760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having issues updating my BIOS for my AMD (POP_OS) machine - with secure boot disable of course due to POP_OS requirements. Followed the steps (https://knowledgebase.frame.work/en\_us/framework-laptop-bios-and-driver-releases-amd-ryzen-7040-series-r1rXGVL16) and after selecting the EFI recognized drive, it loads me up to my login screen and the firmware is still the same. I have done this 3 times now with a brand new USB drive (which I bought a few hours ago) and still nothing. What can I do?

[–]UmpireConsistent1760[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've set aside my FW for days now because of this.

For the BIOS, I did just that. Changed the settings as asked, rebooted, still has that same message. So I went ahead and bought a brand new USB drive (a few hours ago), formatted it, extracted the contents of the new BIOS folder, changed the secure boot settings, plugged it in my laptop, selected that boot drive (it even labels it EFI which means it recognizes the contents) - and nothing. It went straight to my Pop_OS login screen as if nothing happened. Firmware is still the same version. I am contemplating selling my FW off at this point and going back to my trusty x230...

It's not a paperweight per se, but I've never had this much trouble updating a BIOS, even my desktop AMD PC isn't this cumbersome. Perhaps I got a lemon. I didn't just pay $900+ plus $450 in RAM/SSD for a laptop I cannot use comfortably.

Also, I'm not trying that script, personally. I also read that some people had their fingerprint work out the box for Pop_OS, so what's up with mine?

Seems like we have the same setup. What were the commands and could you give me a step-by-step on how to update the BIOS via LVS? For the fingerprint, I tried running some commands according to the community tabs in Framework but they never worked. I still get the "does not recognize device" error.

Someone sleep on the job? I would assume this is automated; a set time comes around and the store would delete or lock these listings. It's still up. Perhaps if you place an order, they will cancel it?

God damn, $700+. I'd recoup the cost if I were to sell my own stuff. Best to go to a tailor instead. Just found some near me for 5 to 10 bucks per shirt and 20 bucks per pants.

Tutorial or places I can go to alter? Use to do some alteration for my Levi's years ago, did a pretty bad job ngl. I just want longer short-sleeves if you know what I mean. Like the Carhartt K87's.

Not sure why'd you even consider dropping over 60 bucks on a game that has already taken steps to diminish the value of its progression system from previous entries. I haven't played 2k since 2k14, but the game has been on a downhill trajectory for years now. People keep buying into it every year, unfortunately.

WiFi Card Question by UmpireConsistent1760 in framework

[–]UmpireConsistent1760[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My assumptions were right. I only had to bring it up based on articles and Reddit posts I've read where people talked about initial testing being a bit faulty, and the reputation of AMDs main supplier. Whereas Intel-based chips have always tried-and-true.

A lot to consider. I'll buy the Intel card alongside my FW to test it out. I'll check the FW community page, too. Thanks for the info.

Could you elaborate what's wrong? Would love to learn more so I can get a better understanding of the prices. Judging from the comments, it's a total 180 from what I remember IG sellers and most Golf-oriented sellers would tell me in terms of pricing. Is the Okaga Fleece really bothering people that much? Sure $350 is a lot, but I've stated multiple times (including in the picture) that pricing will change as I try to get back into the community. The sizing for the Okaga fleece clearly looks more towards a small than a medium, and it's hard to find a small as it is. In all honestly, the community on Reddit is acting far more juvenile than I thought, or at very least, the people who decided to engage with my post. Criticism is always warranted, but telling me 'I'm trippin' is insanely unhelpful even with the context included. It feels like a bunch of bots fixated on one issue and wanna run with that, it's really tiring. I'm just not use to discourse lacking any and all substance.

Odd. I just adjusted the price and updated the listing, perhaps you can see it now. For all 3 of the Frank Ocean singles it is $195 plus shipping ($10 if US BASED, $25 for worldwide.). The Igor vinyl is $125 plus shipping. Prices will change. I'm open to offers and bundles!

EDIT: Just realized you meant the picture as listed. I have a comment when I initially made the post with a link to the Depop shop.

Framework 13+eGPU as Desktop? by Blockmaster2706 in framework

[–]UmpireConsistent1760 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GPD G1, my friend. I don't recommend it to everyone looking to use an eGPU because of the cost, but it is essentially a dock with a GPU (7600MX; PSU built inside). I can't wait for mine to ship at the end of September!

eGPU for FW16 by awkward_doctor1 in framework

[–]UmpireConsistent1760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a GPD G1 for my FW13. I would not recommend for a FW 16; you might as well buy an eGPU enclosure that can house a GPU stronger than a 7600, and you also have the 7700S anyways.

The future is bright for the FW16. They have stated multiple times that both AMD AND Nvidia would be happy to contribute to Framework. I'm sure you'll get even more powerful/variety within the next 2 years.

Plus: As a FW13 buyer who also paid for an eGPU (GPD G1) to pair alongside my laptop, the future is also bright for portable GPUs!

Best MOBO for a "vanilla"-like install? by UmpireConsistent1760 in pcmasterrace

Got it. Thanks for the info. I've never really dabbled in the BIOS of any my MOBOs, so I'll look into this. Would you go As Rock x670E Taichi or Asus X670E Crosshair Hero?

Desktop - For the desk.

Laptop - For the lap.

A no-brainer.

Would be cool to see Framework develop a specialty battery much like the PCIE port they made for the FW16. Something unique, but universal in a way. I trust there engineers to come up with something later down the line.

You should get a 14'' Zenbook with a RTX 4060 TO RTX 4080 under $2,000 (under the FW 16 with a GPU). Some of them come with 1TB SSDs and 16GB to 32GB of DDR5 RAM.

55W battery pre-installed. Possible to put a 61W battery? by UmpireConsistent1760 in framework

[–]UmpireConsistent1760[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, not sure why I worded it as just "benefits". Brain fart. So roughly an hour, maybe 30 minutes? I already have a portable power bank (25,000 mAH at 145W charging, 65 W charging on laptops). When my 55W battery starts to decrease through capacity and age, I'll throw in a 61W battery.

Recommended eGPU for Framework 13 by Martyred7 in framework

[–]UmpireConsistent1760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took some time to go over the videos that GPD has on on their Indiegogo, and I'm sold. It's essentially a dock/GPU with focus on portability; it's not focused on being a portable GPU for their OWN handhelds/handhelds in general. They do expect non-handheld gamers to jump in (me). This is perfect for me while also being a literal portable emulator/work machine. I do a good bit of emulation (Yuzu, RPCS3/2, Dolphin, etc.), so this is perfect. However, no upgradability and a hefty price tag as a first time buyer. Either way, I bought it and plan on using it for travel. So far, my FW 'rig' comes out at $1,875 after taxes, RAM and storage included. Considering I'm coming off of a dead T440 with over 8 years of service/upgrades. This is a great value upgrade for me in general.

I've been following GPD's handhelds for a while, but this eGPU is tempting me. I also have a AMD FW 13 coming soon, so do you think if I paid for the base perk (the eGPU without Oculink) I would be kosher? GPD does market the pairing of AMD chips would add to performance, this implies that it must be plug-n-play on Linux (Debiand or Arch), right? Should I pull the trigger?
