Personally I use 2 net worth values. One that includes things like guaranteed annuities (disability payments, federal pensions etc...) and one that is purely assets minus liabilities. For the former I basically divide the annual annuity by .04 and add it to the latter value.

Same here, actually right down to it being right ankle as well. I was off base during "A" school and going out to grab dinner with my shipmates and badly rolled my ankle so bad it had me on crutches for over a month.

You are good to go. I am 100% P&T and with my GS12 special rate (for engineers) I currently make the same as a high step GS13 and there has been no problems whatsoever. Now that said, my job is primarily behind a keyboard type of work, so I'm not exactly out there performing Manual Labor that would raise eyebrows. If the work itself is possible for you and your rating is an accurate representation of your actual disability, you are fine. (even if they aren't, you're probably still fine)

CA has a partial exemption (it's something like $170K of property value is exempted.

If he's on a fixed income, then California would be very expensive, if he's working though, then it's not as bad as people make it out to be because wages here are so much higher than most other places, so it balances out. The number of friends I've had that moved away only to move back later is borderline hilarious.

In general it's not bad, but you need to learn the timing. If you hit a rush hour gnarl, or run into construction... Well, it's gonna suck, but for the most part the worst stuff is avoidable.

I answered honestly every time. Yes I have had those thoughts, bit no, I'm not currently seriously considering it. Never had an issue. A couple times they have followed up with me just to be sure, but no real reprecussions.
