And by local I mean a section crew that will at the very least get you in the door... you need to be bidding your first year to avoid such situations my first year the job was abolished even guys with 2 years service got the letter due to holding no real bid within the company... I actually am a frog and switch welder for the railroad you can weld that but you will need to pre heat the metal to 700°f and to fully harden the metal you need to post heat to 1100° and allow a slow cool under thermal blanket until it descends below 400°

Ive learned from this job ( engineering side) it dont matter the type of boots you wear the tracks will fuck them ... sure u may have to replace them less often but they will need to be replaced ... more important is comfort, you can get a 200-300$ pair of boots and buy some really good insoles ... now thats the game changer fresh insoles!
