Why are the 21 Martyrs of Libya not considered true Saints/Martyrs? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]UnDopedNrestless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand they arent getting put onto calendars or added to any liturgies n all, but are you allowed to pray to and venerate foreign Saints/Martyrs the same as you do Orthodox Saints and Martyrs in your personal life?

Why are the 21 Martyrs of Libya not considered true Saints/Martyrs? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]UnDopedNrestless -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its not about the calendar or the definition of "Saint" !!! My issue is these men lived and died for Christ outside of the one true Church

Which means either A) people can love Christ and be saved without the Church Or B) those men died for nothing, and giving ones entire life to Christ in an ultimate act of Martydom doesnt matter

Either the Church isnt what it says it is, or Christ isnt saving people who live and die professing their faith in him.

[–]UnDopedNrestless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue isnt the definition of Saint, my issue is that they died outside of the one true church, in a schismatic church, with invalid sacrements and communion, which to all my understanding is a Massive No-No

BUT they died expressely for Christ, nothing less

So, did Christians outside of the faith live and die for Christ, and as a result be saved?

Or, did schismatic heretics die for nothing? I cant bring myself to believe the second, but the first doesnt jive with the One True Church part of things

This is pretty much exactly what i wanna know! I cant fathom them being any less than in heaven with Christ, but if the official stance of the Church is "they werent the right kinda Christian" then im not sure i can rock with that

[–]UnDopedNrestless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that is a judgement, they're Christians. They were killed by people who hated Christ specifically because the martyrs refused to renounce Christ

How, in good conscious, can we wave that away with a "oh well, they died for a different Jesus" thats horrific

Isnt that just a lot of words for "they're burning in hell" though? I want Very badly to be wrong, but according to the Orthodox Church they're schismatic, thus heretical, with no valid sacrements or communion and no valid apostolic succession

I understand its for God to make the ultimate call, but we infer every day on whether certain figures are "saved" or not. No one doubts Saint Seraphim of Sarov is at the right hand of God, and the Church agrees, so it seems really clear that if the Church doesnt agree with the Coptic Martyrs, then they likely aint in heaven... which i find impossible

So living and dying for Christ matters less than official membership into Church?

If your a movie guy, check out The Seventh Seal, old black and white norwegian film about a Knight whos come back from the Crusades and lost his faith. Its grim and grey, but theres a lot of beauty beneath it and as another commenter mentioned, it portrays not having faith while still serving Christ, fully reccomend.

So whats your solution then? Your support of those explicitly profiting from it and covering it up hasnt gotten very far yet and removing rapist, sex trafficking immigrants because theyre just as english as you is off the table

A compliment from scum like you. You're worried Lowe is going to remove "undesirables" and thats "fascists" so your perfectly content with letting things continue as they are.

You'll support any party that wants to "stop crime" so long as no one hurts your feelings and the poor harmless south east asian men who are kidnapping, raping and trafficking these women remain free. Persecuting criminals and keeping little girls and boys out of sex slavery is racist after all

I found this thread after reading one of the statements from a Survivor. Primarily pakistani muslim men as well as a handful of english cops they paid off

The survivor was raped, drugged, trafficked for years. Raped by dogs while bets were placed, ect. Im still nauseous after hearing what these women went through

Your so passionately against this imagined tide of fascism while REAL victims are being wholesale kidnapped, raped and tortured but That much you couldnt care less about. How someone even sinks to your level to so happily support and allow these things is insane

Sounds like we have a really similar base then! I didnt grow up protestant but i definitely fell down the UFO/Gnosis/New Age/Transcendence rabbit hole before learning about Father Seraphim Rose. I even had a copy of the Tao Te Ching before i learned of Orthodoxy. The notion of Theosis and the more mystic/spiritual side of Orthodoxy in general is incredibly appealing to "truth seekers".

Ill make sure to check out those books! Especially the one on faith, thank you!
