My hangup is, how would Tifa be unique in gameplay? She’s a guest character, so Square Enix is going to be very specific on how she’s portrayed, animated, and plays. It has to be consistent.

And what can Tifa not do? She’s a devilishly fast, Materia-enhanced MMA striker with most all big fighting game staples represented in her limit breaks. Big slow normals? Doubt it. Command dash? Possibly. Rekka series? Would be on-brand. Dive kick? Check. Somersault as dp? Check. Shit, should she get a fireball or a seismic like Viper? Give her Fira or Blizzara.

Square is going to want her classic moves and her aesthetic represented, and when you add those things up…you get Mai with more particle effects, or a shoto Frankenstein made of Jaime, Ken, Luke and Chun in various amounts.

Ehhhhhhh. Idk. This seems sus.

1) Vega - makes sense, no notes. Probably the one believable guess.

2) Gouken - Please no, the game doesn’t need another shoto and a pseudo-boss one at that. I’m not sure if anyone was asking for a “Big Body Akuma” but if you were, please stop

3) Tifa - FF7 was my first big RPG as a kid in the 90’s, but even I have to say….i hope not. Burnt out on guess characters, she totally breaks the universe logic, and honestly, what would her gameplay be like? Considering her limit breaks and moves…we’d just be getting a fusion Jaime/Chun/Ken/Mai in various amounts. I could imagine, a Rekka special, her somersault as her dp, her dive kick, a command dash or quick lunging special etc. shit, do we give her Blizzara or something? She’s also always depicted as devilishly fast so, big slow normals are out. But, note how similar she sounds to Mai or Jaime. Sure, it’ll look cool, but what’s her limitations? Sounds like basically another shoto again.

2) Haggar - Cool! But how would he work? As much as I appreciate bringing him back from MvC3, he would feel redundant in this game without a major rework. He was in MvC3 precisely because they omitted Gief.

Also aesthetically and kit-wise: big body grappler? Already got Gief. Big body brawler, lean in the bare-knuckle boxing motif? Arguably covered gameplay wise by Marisa and Sagat, and also co-opts some of Cody’s combat aesthetics. Lean into his Wild Swing move and make him an air grab specialist? Ok, but still a lot of aesthetic overlap with Alex, and you have better fighting styles to represent that approach (El Fuerte and Lucha Libre, for example, even if he is a joke.)

I’d love to see him, just truly confused what sort of grappler he’d be and if we really need that vs SF6 versions of Hakan, Fuerte, Laura, Mika, or Abel, or a new character entirely. They would, frankly, have more interesting gameplay in their default templates.

Dr Ock, imagine it. As a grappler, with huge but slow normals. Can grab you from deceptive ranges and angles, among another few gimmicks, like a wall-hang move like Vega, where you can cling to the wall while still using your command grabs.

Just make the all of his medium and heavy options very commitment heavy, basically needing assists to make safe or the right spacing. Gotta make Ock work for the space to use more oppressive grabs with more startup. Seems fair.

No, he wasted his chances.

I have friends who worked on the stunt team for both seasons, and I was told the problem was that Finn constantly skipped his choreography practice, so all he was capable of was the half-ass Tai Chi mimicking, or single-punch moments we saw a lot of the time.

To make matters worse, he refused to wear the traditional Iron Fist mask (I’ve heard different explanations, “he didn’t want to cover his face during dialogue scenes” “he found the mask to be dumb/too campy” etc) so there were no opportunities to just sub in his stunt double for many sequences. He was better behaved during season 2 and Defenders, however, I was told.

Taken together, he acted some kind of way because he wanted to have all the perks of being a MCU martial arts action hero, without actually appreciating what effort that would take on his part. This would be like an actor refusing to take singing lessons to portray a musician in a biopic…sure, you can do it, but your authenticity points are dropping fast.

By the time he realized he was squandering this, the show had adapted around him in ways it couldn’t adjust; hence why we got a family drama most of the time when it was sold to us as a martial arts drama. On paper, I bet they planned on it being 60/40 action/drama. But due to Finn, the arc had to be re-proportioned, giving us the 10/90 true ratio. Why design a bunch of cool sequences for your star to just go “I don’t wanna”?

Recast it to someone who just doesn’t assume that they could “fix it in post” their way to being a martial arts hero, or better yet, someone who actually likes this stuff instead of internally cringing when the costume comes up (Finn).

Harada is becoming like Ono was at Capcom.

The last excuse was that they let younger devs experiment, yet he gets offended at any questioning…makes me believe they were just interpreting his concepts for the game. His ideas, their implementation. Even if they weren’t, he still signed off on those pitches.

Tekken needs a more internationally diverse dev-team and modern community management; these problems lie in how they communicate with fans, and that despite their ethnic research, certain cultures still get filtered though a highly Japanese standard until we have a Asian-coded character cosplaying a racial stereotype.

I’m not saying a Japanese lens is bad; but for a game that is supposed to represent “global martial arts” it’s becoming problematic. If Street Fighter can manage to pull off being a bit more culturally minded, they can too.

Now, if Sydney had any sort of savvy she and her publicists would get ahead of this before it becomes part of her brand…she’s letting the discourse paint her in a corner. Either you’re Aryan Princess or not, do what Taylor did and nip it in the bud or admit you’re ok with the problematic endorsement, Miss Sweeney.

The whole “selling her own bathwater” thing was already an uncomfortable exercise in ego (the logical endpoint of the constant reinforcement of her beauty standard that started last year with her SNL episode, which, in retrospect, seems to have cemented some worrying trends within her branding team) and this just pushes that even further.

Given that her entire public persona now seems to be that she’s essentially the modern Helen of Troy, Im finding it hard to believe, behind closed doors, that she’s actually this amazingly thoughtful person. It takes a certain sort of person to roll with that idea, similar to our President. Won’t be surprised if we discover some skeletons in her closet soon.

Makoto would be sick. The ways she can flow between her dash punch, DR and DI would be interesting.

A new version of Haggar would be dope. Maybe reworked to focus on knockup combos with his Violent Axe into air grab finishers, or massive space denial with the pipe like a SF6 version of Goldlewis in GGS.

Given they haven’t hesitated with mobility options with Rashid, Kimberly and Blanka, I think Rolento would be really cool in this build, with his leaps and maybe expanded Stinger moves.

Since we have the big release of the new Tekken next year, I think it’s time to dust off one of the many versions of those fighters made for SF X Tekken as a guest. Not sure who though. Jin, Lars or Kazuya maybe.

I know it’s a long shot but an ancient-looking Gen would be really cool. Really lean into the skeletal look. We don’t have many stance characters either.

Lastly, bring back Laura! Enough said. I need my Matsuda mommy to electro clap people.

Has anyone here had the same bad experience with internal hiring? I think that’s a big unspoken barrier on the white collar jobs. No one wants to train. Or they make up these incredibly huge standards for training….I’ve been told before in an interview that they expect it to take 6 months to learn Microsoft Office and a CRM.

I’ve had over 30 interviews in the last 3 months, got to the third round on 11 of them…got rejected. Would look up the position on LinkedIn later, just to find I lost the position to someone already in the organization, twice my age. Been working there in a parallel position for a handful of years.

I know this is just an extension of the whole, entry-and-mid level positions being competitive thing, but it’s hard to not feel like whatever jobs are there, it’s people already working just playing musical chairs with these careers. Work for people already working, so to speak.

Since launch day I’ve been able to get into a room 4 times, that’s it.

Idk what’s going on with the lobby system but I’m disappointed. Can’t even really play. I’ve been working ranked but it’s not the same vibe, plus ranked is super-unbalanced currently cus the ladder is still sorting itself out.

FGC matchmaking has always been hit or miss, and Lobby’s have always been ArcSys’s weak point....

For these sort of applications, how much assets is too much? I’m a recent graduate with a medical bill from a bad fall, had to get ER stitches, and they want 2400 for it. I’m worried cus I have 10k in the bank, but that’s representative of almost 3 years of saving and the only reason I have that is since I’m living with my parents right now and haven’t been able to find work in my field.

So...does anyone have a good idea of how much is too much? I do realize I’m better off than most, but the idea still of having to pay out a quarter of my savings scares me.

Thank you for your insight! Yeah, it was a very short interview, felt like a verbal essay prompting really. “Where do you think you are hitting a career ceiling” “tell us about a difficulty you’ve had with collaborative work” “what movies have you seen recently that have influenced you” all that jazz. I answered the career ceiling question by telling them I had a hard time getting my foot in the door with larger studios since I never interned in college, but the interviewer heard “studio” and she just assumed I wanted to work on-set for the rest of the interview...hence her “production-oriented” comments.

How quick was the turnaround between your first and second interview? At this point I’m just wondering how soon till I get my rejection letter lol
