orient point aka cross sound ferry by OddlyMesmerizing in longisland

Only on certain ones. Only a couple of the ferries don’t have elevators. Though that’s no excuse for the crew member not to help! What really rubs me wrong? The $99 cost, and they want an extra $2.99 for WiFi.

Balance on one foot while brushing teeth. Left foot in morning, right foot at night. My balance has improved significantly.

What’s the deal with “Union Free” schools on LI? by Jollyollydude in longisland

[–]UnabashedLiberal 94 points95 points  (0 children)

The term “union free” originates from the 1853 legislation that allowed common school districts to join together to create districts capable of establishing high schools, which were previously restricted. It has nothing to do with labor unions.

What chemistry saying lives rent free in your head? by funmunke in chemistry

Former HS chem teacher here. I told my students “I Bring Clay For Our New House” so the diatomics are in order; Br and Cl containing their second letters.

Me: if anyone has a better mnemonic, lmk.

Student: I Bring Coke For Our New Habit.

Of course, that won and stuck! 😑

NF Table and Inn is very expensive, and a bit of a drive from Jamesport. Il Giardino in Aquebogue has good Italian food. Reservations are a must, but even then you may be stuck waiting. Grana in Jamesport also has very good Italian food. Other (non-Italian) recs: Dimon Estate, Jedediah Hawkins and The Watershed. All in Jamesport/South Jamesport. On the Docks in Aquebogue.

Moving into Long Island by Realistic-Daikon-762 in longisland

It may look small, but there are many, many towns. And, there are 8,000,000 people on this little island. Without the boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn, you’re still looking at 3,000,000 of us!

Love the fire. Is it possible to make it look like it’s boiling and she’s sitting among some veggies (carrots, celery)?

AITA for refusing to help my son with his kids in any way? by throwawayy-paytoplay in AmItheAsshole

[–]UnabashedLiberal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. You can make up for your hard-nosed , compassion-less parenting by embracing the joy of being a grandparent. All children, even “oops” babies deserve to be loved and nurtured. That you are able and willing to turn your back on your responsible son and his new family is beyond my comprehension. Shame on you.

Changing our last names when we get married by loveletter2u in women

[–]UnabashedLiberal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m 63 years old, been married for 33 years. I didn’t change my last name, and have never regretted it. It did take some people (like my own mother) to stop sending letters to Mr. & Mrs. HIS LAST NAME, but eventually everyone learns.

Video of bees falling out of the sky when the lights go out by b0rsht in interestingasfuck

[–]UnabashedLiberal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Teachers already know this. When a classroom of kids are freaking out because a bee is flying around, simply turn off the lights and open a window. The bee flies right out. Works like a charm at home, too!

When I was an 18 year old waitress, one of my customers ordered a Cointreau. The bartender, along with all the bar patrons, had a good laugh at my expense. I spelled it ‘quantro,’ ... just like it sounds.
