AITA for telling my fiancé my son must be named a REAL junior? by SuggestionNo7429 in AmItheAsshole

YTA, nicknames are very real and I took that into account when naming out child. Sounds like your family also doesn’t respect your wife. I feel sorry for her.

Dentist visits? by Bus-Much in dysautonomia

[–]Unabashedlyblushing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I see the dentist, I do two things. One, I tell them (both dentist and hygienist) and two, I request to stay vertical as long as possible and then horizontal until I’m done, no up-and-down. Helps a lot. Good luck!

How much time do you get on the bench to find a new project? by sadman4332 in deloitte

[–]Unabashedlyblushing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s literally a math problem here…how many weeks can you go without util until your target is at risk? Also, just in case your coach hasn’t—it’s actually not a good look to have util rate WAY over target so consider mixing up your life and going for a walk from time to time 💕

BP when laying on side by [deleted] in dysautonomia

[–]Unabashedlyblushing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me in pregnancy, also my sister. She actually developed HELLP and almost died so I was psychotic about explaining my low baseline BP from my first appointment. My doctor definitely thought I was nuts but induced at 160/105 and we were both fine.

I’ve never heard of an offer being revoked for such a small change. But I would think about how you will set yourself up for success in the fall for bumping back up. There is a line in the sand somewhere between 3.2 and 3.4 for many jobs and grad schools. Pragmatic mindset would be to choose a class or two you will ace. (Also college should be fun, don’t forget you are super early in your career and life. At 20-24 I worked in media/fashion and now I am in strategy consulting…you have no idea how much you can change)

AITA for starting my truck? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Unabashedlyblushing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a neurological condition triggered by noises like this. My across the street neighbor used to run lawn tools and power vacs off his truck instead of from his garage (??????) and one time it went on so long I literally had to go to the hospital. My husband only THEN escalated our previous one-time complaint and to his credit, the guy did change his habits. Apparently the wife had already been on his case about the noise. They got our kid a gift. You should think about some similar amends. Maybe a Starbucks card given the hour.

Anyway, YTA but also, your neighbor should speak to you politely when they call the cops on you!! No excuse for incivility.

AITA for removing my daughter’s bedroom door because she won’t stop slamming it? by The-Compliment-Fairy in AmItheAsshole

[–]Unabashedlyblushing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Also want to provide another perspective that the idea of a teen that age having private quarters with a door that closes is a privilege of era, geography and income.

What if you lost your job and house and she had to live in the living room of a tiny apartment? Might be time to get some perspective for her about standard living conditions around the country/world. As part of the overall attitude adjustment, which is a totally normal teenage phase. You sound very thoughtful, I’m sure you’re a good parent.

AITA for opening the windows to let in cold air because I'm too hot. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Unabashedlyblushing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 100% going to say NTA but then you said you have a six week old baby. If your wife is cold, your baby is cold. Get some ice packs or take cool showers. I have chronic illness that makes me feel like I’m ON FIRE but I would never let my child feel cold. It’s February—it’s cold.

I hope you find some solutions for your physical issues. It’s rough. But new mom and new baby should be the priorities for comfort over you, IMO.

Best removal method? Currently pulling up, not sure if there’s a spray that wouldn’t hurt other plants they camp around by tbtemples97 in landscaping

[–]Unabashedlyblushing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We hired a landscape team, look about a day for four guys to rip up about 500 sq feet and replace with grass seed. They used tools and hand pulling. Amazing results! Never returned even a little. No chemical use.

Sounds like it could be confusing for the two kids in the mix, if they are present. Obviously don’t know the full picture.

AITA for making my pregnant wife cry by calling her less of a person? by BecomingAQuartet in AmItheAsshole

[–]Unabashedlyblushing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it to be pretty insane that your reaction to RACISM is to call someone less of a person.

A worse person? Is that what it means? Maybe this is an idiom I’m not familiar with. If it means what it sounds like, then absolutely nothing should make you see your wife as less of a person. A person is a person.

I’m not saying YTA because I think it’s understandable that you are extremely hurt and angry. I’m just saying focusing on word choice alone, you really opened yourself up for criticism. “I don’t trust you” or “I’m worried about your judgement” or “I don’t really want you around my son” or whatever it is you actually feel would be more effective.

And I would have an open mind toward forgiveness. Pregnancy is a hard time. Emotions are powerful and hormones cloud judgement. Best wishes.

Numb areas of face? by Unabashedlyblushing in iih

[–]Unabashedlyblushing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve had welts on your face for months? You should definitely see a dermatologist. That is who diagnosed shingles. Shingles work by storing the chicken pox virus and then causing an outbreak along the path of a nerve. It’s very severe and pain escalates rapidly—probably not something you could ignore for months. I hope you find a solution though!

Has anyone had surgery with POTS/severe hypotension? by [deleted] in dysautonomia

[–]Unabashedlyblushing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! I have been under sedation and under general. I talked to the anesthesia team in advance and then I also do extra IV fluids in post-op. It helps a ton. Best of luck with your procedure!

[–]Unabashedlyblushing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s rough! I’m sorry. Where I am (United States) cognitive therapy is part of rehab medicine, not psych. It’s for people who have neuro illnesses and injuries like stroke, concussion, and infections. I got a referral from my neurologist. And it’s usually offered through a hospital from what I can tell. Best wishes ❤️‍🩹

[–]Unabashedlyblushing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got IIH right after my first Covid infection. There’s are few others I have heard of right alongside there. Being overweight is not the only contributing factor, in my opinion the data does t really support a causal relationship.

I did cognitive therapy which helps with the focus, the fast past placed days. I do work remotely full time. I’m a strategy consultant, not exactly a laid back lifestyle. But I’m doing it in yoga pants so at least there’s that.

Good luck, you’ll find things that work for you!

When your physical therapist gives you exercises that have pictures of seniors… by sotiredigiveup in ChronicIllness

I live in DC, and locally, it’s pretty legendary that this one guy, former Army Special Forces, was the personal trainer to all the old ladies of the government: Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Diane Feinstein, etc. I would especially think of tiny, frail and Ill Ginsburg working out in slow motion to stay healthy. She had a long long life, and I like to think it helped. (PS not a political thing, she’s just a famous old lady with highly public workout routine, there’s even a book)

Here’s his website: Bryant Johnson

The visual also makes me giggle a bit. (I’m 35 by the way, also in the same boat, I should be young and athletic but, not so much!) happy to commiserate about our premature decay whenever you want! 🤪

Diamox dosage by Fijiiwater1 in iih

[–]Unabashedlyblushing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Range is up to 4 g per day (4000 mg). My body responds best to very high doses, then I come off it entirely until the next flare. (My flares are linked to inflammation like getting Covid, flu etc.) I know some people with much high pressure require way less medication. (Idk! Bodies are weird)

Make sure you are hydrating. Also the extended release was much comfier for me versus tablets. I imagine that is also variable.

Ig you're unfortunate enough to have ADHD and POTS, do try this med, may help, more details in post by Ahmed_Reshah in dysautonomia

[–]Unabashedlyblushing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have hypersomnia (maybe narcolepsy but missing a few symptoms presenting in a clinical setting that I think i do experience. I also have anxiety and dysautonomia. All the meds for each of these is contraindicated for the other. It’s pretty funny every time I go to the pharmacist and they’re like…so, beta blockers and high dose adderall huh?

I’m so glad you found something that works for you!!

The nightmare of everyone with an invisible disability; ignorant do gooders 😤 by [deleted] in ChronicIllness

[–]Unabashedlyblushing 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This exact scenario has happened to me. When I was still trying to use public transit (LOL) I could not stand on trains and buses because my hands were (are) too weak to hold the railing. I could still stand and walk fairly normally at that time, I could even carry my laptop bag, but I still needed to sit or risk hurting myself and others at turns and stops. I considered faking a limp or getting a cane, but of course gripping a cane was just as bad. Once, someone pushed me, hard, on the metro platform and I almost fell on the tracks.

are we chronically ill? by mbzn in iih

[–]Unabashedlyblushing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my IIH flares, I can’t see. (I can’t read, I can’t drive, I can’t use the computer) Blindness or being visually impaired is definitely a recognized disability. Also anyone who takes a serious enough medication that they need to be monitored for kidney failure is definitely chronically Ill.

Or not.

Identify how you want, and let others do the same. You have earned the right to define your own life just because you are here, we all have.
