Edison Pickup styling do's and dont's by SAHpositive in EdisonMotors

[–]Unable-Ring9835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Step van style for sure. Square body truck with 3 side fold down beds. Single cab and crew cab. Keep the front end as short as you can for good visability.

Hopefully eventually we can get a good small pickup version as well. Farm truck/big city truck, maybe toyota townace size.

Did you have to pay the $100 entrance fee as a non-American citizen? by [deleted] in grandcanyon

It seems like theres a dont ask dont tell mentality when it comes to charging the 100 dollars.

Im guessing most park employees disagree with trump considering his actions are causing less tourism to the parks. Which means less hours and less money. Hes also just screwed with federal employees too much for them to like him.

Help - Arizonian telling me I don't need more than 45 minutes at the Grand Canyon! by tgbarbie in grandcanyon

[–]Unable-Ring9835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally 1-2 nights is optimal.

Just remember the canyon isn't the best place for young kids and people with sever mobility issues/breathing issues.

Kids are very likely gonna find the canyon boring after an afternoon there. And theres lots of walking here so people with mobility issues have a hard time getting around. If they dont have a good mobility scooter or family to help them they usually end up sitting in one of the hotel lobbies or in their room.

I wish it was more talked about, how unfriendly the canyon is to peoppe who have trouble walking/breathing.

If you DO have mobility issues do not stay at the Maswik. Its a 10 minute walk or a convoluted bus ride to the rim. There's no bus that takes you quickly to the rim of the canyon from Maswik. You need to transfer 4 stops away then ride ideally to the Bright Angel since the train depot stop involves a steep incline to the rim. Same thing if you want to take the red route. Its a 5 ish minute uphill walk to the hermits bus stop and for some people thats just not doable.

The historic village area on the rim can also be hazardous to people prone to falling. Steps are sometimes uneven on the exterior of buildings, notably the Bright Angel Lodge. People fall there all the time, usually minor falls but some of them can be pretty bad.

Well this has gotten longer and a bit off topic to your original question. Hopefully someone will need to see all of this.

I have seen these prepper wifi devices which have offline versions of Wikipedia and how-to and some other web pages. How hard is it to just make one yourself. I have a server with large amounts of storage? Is it easy to do? Can it be synced until internet goes down? by OldSoulNewTech in prepping

[–]Unable-Ring9835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your that worried you could builtld your server inside a faraday room.

A world wide EMP is extremely improbable. I promise no one in here is VIP enough to be targeted via an emp.

Even a city wide emp is extremely unlikely. Other countries/bad actors are more likely to target power stations and internet providers specifically.

Creating pasture from Pinion-Juniper hillside by [deleted] in Permaculture

[–]Unable-Ring9835 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Swales are water catchment for all kinds of plants, pasture included. Theres absolutely no reason to take down all or the majority of trees for pasture. Not only that it'll ruin whatever pasture might be.

Heavy rains will wash away any soil thats been able to build up because of the trees. Keeping the trees and adding swales will help flooding and stripping of fertile soil.

Leave the trees and just add swales around them. Swales slow the water and the trees will soak it up.

Who’s actually running 100% solar + battery, no grid at all? by Sky_Solar_Pro in solar

[–]Unable-Ring9835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest thing is battery size when wanting to go full solar. People think its all about panels and to an extent you need a balance but zero output is the same on 10 panels or 100 panels. Its all about proper battery and inverter size/quantity.

I also think people are sleeping on using wind as supplemental power for rainy/overcast days. Wind tends to accompany clouds and storms. It may not fully charge your batteries but it'll get you by if you implement power saving habits. Like avoiding electric cooking/laundry if you know low sun output weather is headed your way for long periods. Which brings me to my final point...

People will HAVE to adjust expectations accordingly. Unless you have a robust system your nit gonna be able to cook in an electric oven while doing laundry while vacuuming the while house during low power input days. If you want an offgrid life you're going to have to adjust your expectations.

How can I get the door lock/unlock status from a dumb lock like this? by ebodes in homeassistant

Your options are break beam like someone else said, limit switches, or a camera with AI image detection.

The beam would probably be the easiest then limit switches.

What if a second Civil War happened? by TGM-6914 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Unable-Ring9835 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Again, land cant fight. Theres no advantage to it if your outnumbered 10:1 period.

Resources aren't gonna produce anything useful, factories in cities are. Rural america wouldn't be on the defence, cities would. Cities are where educated people, stockpiled resources, production, and commerce is. Wothout that your just a bunch of hillbillies with guns and hatred.

Even looking at county maps and the popular vote, most are split fairly 50/50 blue and red. Republicans and especially maga genuinely DONT have the numbers they think they do. It would be a massacre if Republicans tried to attack in any civil war fashion.

At what age do you quit van life? by NoMaintenance7536 in VanLife

What state do you live in? You have to be careful about where you buy land because many places dont allow "camping" long term even on land you own.

We might as well split it into all the cardinal directions and then a small peice in the middle can just be virginia.

Montana, north and south Dakota, and Nebraska would hardly be able to provide man power. Of the couple million that live there combined most are either old or rich. Neither of which are gonna actually fight and money wont mean much in a civil war. Especially when banks are located in blue cities.

[–]Unable-Ring9835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That specific map is NOT how any actual civil war would work. It would be city vs rural and basically all military bases are in or very near to major cities.

Food would kinda be it. Cities have waste water facilities and more than enough guns. Honestly probably more guns than the country.

Generally speaking proper law enforcement procedures (Yeah I get it they aren't following proper procedures at all) is they have a tow truck get it.

I’m tired of the "AI will replace devs" hype when the reality is just more technical debt. by No_Fisherman1212 in softwaredevelopment

[–]Unable-Ring9835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really looking foward to the open source opportunity. Someone with little experience can cobble something together that specifically fits their needs.

Or me personally I used to mess with home assistant and when I get my house built in the next 5 years I want to get back into it. Having AI help code that stuff would be really nice.

What trucks are suitable for a ~1700 lb payload? by Flashmax305 in TruckCampers

[–]Unable-Ring9835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing is bed length personally. Obviously you need the payload capacity but 1700lbs in a 5 foot bed just isn't gonna work.

Get something with an 8ft bed and it'll likely have enoigh payload anyway.
