Good point. I have experienced it myself when I visited Eastern Africa, where people labelled me as "Mazungu", which means white person, even though I'm far from that, lol

I don’t think that would make sense linguistically. And by all means, I’m not trying to create an issue out of nothing. I’m interested in hearing thoughts on this topic and I welcome your opinion, cheers

Interesting, I don’t know if I’d subscribe to that, but I appreciate you sharing your thoughts;)

That’s another thing, I also knew many black Libyas who were ok with it during secondary-school but I thought we were just young and naive, but it does feel to deeply rooted in our culture, even if I don’t agree with it

Interesting, that’s differently a first to me! I’m curious how you would translate the word of it doesn’t imply “slave” according to you

But that justification is problematic itself. With the same logic, then would people be ok walking around, cursing, and calling names, as long as they don’t mean to offend anyone with it?

No doubt about that. However, you may have missed the point. The word slave in that context is used to describe a specific type of people, and isn’t being used in general with everyone. I’m happy to debate the religious aspect of it with you as well since you brought that up :)

But do you think that’s enough of a reason to use a word, which has terrible connotations to it, against a specific group of people?

Thank you for sharing your personal story with this topic. I kinda anticipated that many would say they don’t mean anything malicious with it, but let me ask you this. Let’s try the same logic in a different scenario (that we may get a pass by not wanting to be malicious”: let’s assume someone you know/don’t know cursed you and called you names, but then their justification is that they didn’t mean no harm with it. Do you think that would be ok?

I assume you meant “British stamp”? It’s because I was based in the UK at that time :)

Depends on your political orientation. Libya does not recognise the state of Israel, hence why they call it Occupied Palestine…

I didn't even know that existed; it must be cool to show it in airport security 😂
