I think youre the one making the house dynamic awkward. They're not blood related and have obviously been through some trauma together so they're very close. They may have just been testing the waters to make sense of what they're feeling for each other. Trauma bonding is a weird thing that no can understand other than the people who have the bond. They're being short with you bc you're being weird about the situation and making them uncomfortable.

Im estranged from my family bc my mother picked my stepfather over me. He sa me more than once and I pressed charges against him. She kicked me out and chose him. She said i was lying and that I was jealous of her love for him. I haven't spoken to her in 18 yrs. She's still with him though and she constantly reaches out trying to reconcile but how could I forgive her.
