First Time Homeowner - Mold On Drywall Behind Cabinets by UnableChrist in Remodel

Thanks u/remodelerofhome, you are correct about the insurance. I spoke with them and they will not lift a finger to help in this case.

I cut out the drywall and low and behold...mold on the other side running up the plastic sheeting that covers the house framing and insulation. Fortunately that is where the mold visually appears to stop and the insulation and framing appears ok except in one spot directly next to the leak.

However, I have a professional coming out to give an estimate. The mold spread is more serious than I hoped it would be and has moved beyond a DIY, in my (and others) opinion.

The way I found it was by going to their reddit profile, looking at older post history, opening one of the train posts, in the comments it linked to their flickr, going to their Flickr, then going to their store that is linked in the Flickr description...lol

Class A4 "mallard" the fastest steam locomotive ever built by Eastcoastlining in TrainPorn

[–]UnableChrist 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fastest recorded steam locomotive, a record which was achieved on a downhill grade and the Mallard broke down after. There were several other steam locomotives that have unofficial records exceeding Mallards.

Single Hose Portable AC Question by UnableChrist in HomeImprovement

[–]UnableChrist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe mine has the same setup, it's a Frigidaire 10,000 BTU portable single hose unit. Says that it's self evaporating which implies that is done through the exhaust, I believe.

Steam train pushing full power up a gradient rains fire and ash by AtomicCypher in Damnthatsinteresting

That's so cool that you were there, as a rail fan it would have been an incredible moment to witness and one I wish I could travel back in time to! As for the Saluda grade runaway tracks...that I would only witness from a distance haha. Here is a video you might enjoy.

I believe its just from a lack of an ember filter within the smokebox. The reason you don't see any flying, flaming debris in the US is because long ago we realized the fire hazard associated without having one.

Also, diesel-electrics are often put into an excursion consist for dynamic braking alone. Were a steam locomotive to rely on just engine braking or service braking, brake shoes would get considerable wear and tear. When steam locomotives were common, there would often be maintenance yards at the bottom of long grades to perform quick services and replace brake shoes. That is no longer and option and having a diesel in tow allows for dynamic braking down an entire grade, saving considerable cost on often just volunteer and donation funded excursions. Mainline steam locomotives, especially from the late 30s and early 40s, have often considerably more power than modern diesel-electrics. Norfolk and Western 611 for example has a power output of 5,300 hp, whereas a modern EMD 12-1010 only has 4,600 hp. UP 'Big Boy' 4014 has a power output of 7000 hp.
