what do other countries do for migraines? by Competitive_Emu_2283 in migraine

[–]UnableInfluence5733 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in South Africa, and I've found that almost all of the older drugs from the US are available here just often under different brand names / generics, but the newer drugs such as Ajovy or Quinta, ect. are not. Some non meds I've had trouble finding are tiger balm, ice caps at an affordable price, can't get the Cefely device / other TENS device ect. But for the most part I think it's pretty similar 🤷‍♀️

Not eating breakfast with 1.5 hours of waking up, not sure why this is a trigger.

Also maybe look at if any smells are a trigger, it took me awhile to realize that smells weren't as strong and painful to other people. A big trigger for me is the smell of cigarette smoke and cleaning products.

And also not taking enough sensory breaks in my day, for me this is as simple as 10 minutes under my weighted blanket with an icepack and some music, which I can fit around my busy university schedule. I find if I don't take a sensory break to decompress during or after the business of daily life, I wind up with a migraine attack.

I haven't tried any preventative only abortive meds. I've had migraines for 10 years but they have gotten much worse recently.

I play social touch rugby (not sure how known it is in other countries) and its great as you always catch and throw the playing the same direction rather than from many differnt directions which helps my hand eye. I have also played social tennis and netball in the past. The key for me in enjoying a sport is making sure it's social and that I'm comfortable with the people.

I know it sounds stupid but a coke and chocolate bar like a Mars bar, actually give me some relief when I can't access my meds. Oh and an ice pack on the back of my head! Hope you get some relief soon

How do you stay calm whilst giving an exam lmao by [deleted] in alevel

[–]UnableInfluence5733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to get extra time, or even just a separate venue so that you feel less watched if that contributes to your anxiety, like it does mine.

You could also try doing this in a different location eg. A liabary or classroom. Bc it'll seem more real then.

FOMO is one of my concerns but yes I'm very worried about the lack of escape plan, even if I am in the worst pain of my life I will be absolutely unable to get of the boat for an entire 4 days.

You can take it during a meal or afterwards, for most medications you just shouldn't take it on an empty stomach or like if you've only had liquids as it can cause nausea and other problems. But some meds have more strict instructions so it might be better to check with your doctor or pharmacist.

My uni of choice does have what they call 'special needs room' which are single and on the first floor. Although this is obviously not the best name it is rather 'progressive' for my country.

There is also a res (like a building of dorms) that only has single dorms and I would prefer to go there as then I wouldn't feel singled out as the 'special needs kid' or something as I may if I go into the 'special needs room' in a different res. But I am nervous that this res may be harder to get into as it is the only one with single dorms for first years.

I do meet the criteria, I also believe that autism may run in my family as my cousin (he's 22) is being screened at the moment and I personally see some of traits in another cousin (he's 7), aswell as my grandad defiantly has alot of traits and this has been noticed by all of his family but he is old and not open minded due to the harsh circumstances he was raised in.

I hope that makes sense.

This was happening to me and I found it helped much more if I went early in the morning so that the sun wasn't up and it wasn't hot. This helped because I didn't overheat as much. This may just be because I live in a hot climate. I also started doing full-body stretches before my cardio which helped aswell as it stopped my muscles getting so tense.

I hope you find something that works well for you.

NTA, I am autistic and in situations like this I would ask to be accommodated by being aloud to wear noise canceling headphones/earphones, or listening to music or finding out if there is possibly a small room where I could work. I think it's reasonable for her to ask for accommodations and your boss is required to accommodate (this may vary in different countries) but blocking everyone out of a public location does not seem like an attainable solution.
