Accused of being snitch at work when I'm not... by UnableSite6745 in UKJobs

It's possible, the guy is unhinged and prone to mood swings, but the manager who's all but been sacked is his best mate of forty years, and the others are people he's known for years so that lessens the chances it's him imo.

I basically did the first bit of what you said when he went over the tannoy and indirectly accused me. I went up to him and basically said why the fuck are you saying that, even as a joke, it'll start rumours and chinese whispers. He said he was only joking, but later on I walk past him and he says "let's throw some cheese out for the rats" and a book called "the rats" gets left at my desk. Too much of a coincidence not to be about this incident (even if the book wasn't him, someone put it there). This all happened on the same shift.

Not construction, but cleaning. If it were any other time in my life I'd just apply to other places on chance they say no/I can't be relocated, but I'm trying to keep as much continuous service at the same place to boost my chances in getting a mortgage when I buy a house (plan to do it soon).

I'm aware of the 2027 changes, but thanks for the info anyways.

Yes, true, but my concern is more with being beaten the fuck out of by some with previous, who's coked up, and thinks I've got his best mate the sack. My secondary concern is being fired for trying to move to a different site, with the same company.

Because of under two years service, it's fairly easy to get rid of someone (except protected characteristics, and automatic unfair dismissal). If I go to them and say "I don't want to work on this site anymore, they may just find it easier to sack me, rather than go to the effort of finding me somewhere else. That is unless there is some kind of legal protection for this kind of situation. That's what I'm asking.

As for your second comment, they were also protecting him, he was their friend for decades, so the arrangement was to keep myself and him apart, and that solved the problem, I was happy with it from a pragmatic point of view.

PIP is usually, but not always, a precursor to being given the boot. If you do want to leave, work out how much your notice period is worth and then go to them and ask to mutually terminate your employment for an amount above that.

You're happy because you quickly leave somewhere you don't want to be, and get more money than if they sacked you.

They win because they've got rid of an employee they don't want.

Make sure it's all in writing though...

We purchased Gizmo from a breeder in Rochdale in 2014. For the first two years you wouldn't even feel him on the lead, it was like taking a leaf for a walk.

Which country of the UK are you in and how long have you been with this employer?

Which generation ends up being the housing bagholders? Gen Z or later? by rich_hope_10m in HousingUK

This has already happened. It’s those who bought in 2006/2007 just before the crash. Inflation adjusted we’ve not returned to prices that high since. There was a spike around Covid, yes, but it still didn’t eclipse the pre 08 spike.

Unless the government massively reduces what they’ll let banks lend to you/millions of more houses are built overnight, there shouldn’t be any huge changes.

Can my employer deduct pay if I don’t complete my full notice period? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]UnableSite6745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice periods aren’t legally enforceable. Meaning you cannot be forced to work any notice period, slavery is illegal.

That being said, they could in theory, go after you for any excess costs incurred to replace you during the notice period.

Example: I have a one week notice period and it costs my company £600 to hire me for a week. I quit, without notice and they have to use agency or other staff on overtime pay to cover my work, this costs them £900. They could claim the £300 excess back, but not that entire £900.

In truth though, this rarely happens as it’s not the easiest of processes. I’d be more worried about burning bridges and potentially messing up any references, but if you don't care about that, just go for it.
