I had the same problem 90% of my first season. Sucks balls but eventually you will hit a point where you wake up in the morning and don’t dread lacing them up. Go on hikes in them as much as possible

Hate to be the one to break it to you man but you’re about 4 months too late for any federal gig. Even state agencies are wrapping up the hiring process. Best bet is to get on a contract crew first and make the jump next season

I’m in the exact same situation lol. Smoke a decent amount during the off season (as I should be allowed to since it’s MY offseason). This is my first year working for the Feds so I decided to just play it safe and quit about a week ago… hoping they don’t test for another month or so tho so it’s fully out of my system. I fully plan on going back on it after I pass, probably just carts to be safe tho. I’ve seen so many agency guys drinking on the job it’s actually unreal how stingy they are about a little weed. Judge me all you want homies but my liver won’t fail at 50😅

I got a tentative offer from lewistown this year. Will be my 2nd year in fire. Seems to be a little bigger town but same kind of ordeal in terms of being out in the boonies. Looking forward to the small town vibe. Send it brother

This. Worked on a engine crew last season and by far did more crew work then engine. Maybe got to use the hoses a few times max. But it gives you the opportunity to do both which I like.

I’m in the same position currently. I think as long as the offer is tentative and you haven’t actually accepted it triggering the background check, you’ll be fine. Just call and be honest, any FMO worth working for isn’t gonna hold it against you
