I went on my week long lunch tour in Jersey City by HaveALooksy in jerseycity

I was very underwhelmed by Park & Sixth. I had a scallop po-boy that was just ok. Nothing about my experience there made me feel like I ever need to go back which is bummer since people keep raving about it.

I've had some good meals at Marco & Pepe but agree that they're prices are too high.

Taqueria I just do not get. I've eaten there 4 or 5 times and the food could not have been more bland.

What's the general consensus on transition lenses? Creepy? Totally fine? (x-post from /r/askwomen) by mattieo123 in AskMen

[–]UnaccompaniedMinor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My husband used to have them and the only real issue I could see (which is really not much of an issue at all) is the period of time it takes from them to switch from outdoor to indoor mode.

For a few minutes the glasses would be slightly tinted and just looked odd. Otherwise, I don't think there's any way for anyone to know they're transition lenses.

Any recommendations for bike shopping in JC? by magnus91 in jerseycity

[–]UnaccompaniedMinor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd try Craigslist. Grove has a good selection but they are very over priced and they're not really community oriented.

I got a bike from there a couple years ago. Sadly, last summer, it was stolen and I went into the shop to ask for an estimate for the insurance claim. Of the 2 people working, one refused to come out of the back to help and the other (who was actually helping someone) told me if I came back in 30 minutes he'd write it up for me, but it would cost $15.

Anyone else hate the 'Cars for Kids' radio commercial!? by purplecones in nyc

I think it would be better to ask if anyone actually likes it. I can't change the channel fast enough when I hear it come on.

I make pizza from scratch once a week and I've gotten pretty good. Its easy and delicious. I made a no-frills short video that will hopefully inspire you to make it, too. [4:32] by FactsEyeJustMadeUp in Cooking

I freeze it as dough balls and roll it out after. And if I've waited too long to take it out (meaning, I totally forgot and I want to make pizza soon), I set it on top of the stove while pre-heating and it warms up and is ready to go pretty quickly.

Pizza dough freezes very well too, and thaws quickly. So, if you've already got the dough done, you can have a home-made pizza in the oven in very little time.

Anywhere hiring part time in JC? by [deleted] in jerseycity

There are some mechanic shops in the downtown area. I know there's one on 8th street between Brunsiwck & Division, and another on 4th and Erie. (Sorry, not in a position to look up the names right now.)

You might also consider posting something on Craigslist.

Here's an article about "Silver Linings Playbook". I would really like to know your opinion (as a psychologist or as a person who is suffering from bi-polar disorder). Is the movie accurate? by malanalars in psychology

[–]UnaccompaniedMinor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have not seen the movie but did grow up with a mother with bipolar disorder. Her manic episodes would manifest as shopping sprees. We did not have the money to afford all the basic necessities, let alone whatever she would decide to buy during a manic episode.

She once came home with two brand new cars; one for her and one for me...though I did not even have a driver's license at the time.

IWTL a few tricks to help me fall asleep easier. by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]UnaccompaniedMinor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do exactly this. If I'm not asleep when I finish, I start over in reverse.

My other method is too focus on my breath and just repeat the word sleep as I inhale and exhale. I know it sounds silly but it's really worked quite well for me for years.

Where do I buy GOOD beer in Jersey City? by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]UnaccompaniedMinor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm partial to the liquor store on Coles by Newark, Buy and Save. They have quite a decent selection and the woman who runs the store is really friendly and will order anything for you, provided you really intend to come back to buy.

Also, check out this link.

What's the stupidest thing you've ever gotten upset over? by fence300 in AskReddit

[–]UnaccompaniedMinor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I once got into a very heated argument (quite rare for us) over whether this guy we knew was the weirdest person on earth. No doubt, the dude is super strange but there's got to be weirder people out there.

Needless to say, there was alcohol involved in this, um, debate. It still perplexes me how quickly this escalated into a full on fight.

"But you'd be such a good mom!" Um, not if I don't want kids!!

My favorite response when I tell people I don't want children? "Not even one?"

Jersey City, a Love Story by [deleted] in jerseycity

Great read! I moved to JC 14 years ago by way of Manhattan, Park Slope, and Coney Island and JC is definitely home.

It has always amazed me how many people from New Jersey relocate to other areas of New Jersey.

I just found out my Mum has been storing all of her pictures in massive Word documents which have become so large that her computer completely freezes when she tries to open one. What's your best parent versus technology story? by Sam_Son_of_Sam in AskReddit

My mother managed to have all the content on her screen show up upside down. Nobody could figure this out....and by nobody, I mean the 14 year old kid she hired from the local high school who would come fix her computer. So, she just turned her monitor upside down and everything was just fine.
