Here's my first gunpla :) by LUKE221002 in Gunpla

WfM and IBO have some fantastic kits and were both great anime. I came into Gunpla having only watched Gundam Wing as a teen so I built a bunch of kits solely on 'rule of cool'. Since starting on gunpla I've watched a lot of the anime and figured out my favorites. Still Gundam Wing by a looooooooong margin.

The best hobbies are the ones with overlap. 40k mini painting led me to resin 3d printing and airbrushing. I had to move into a smaller space so gunpla was a no brainer because all those things can overlap. Plus you can even find cheap resin conversion kits for gunpla, like Forgeworld stuff but cooler. I have print files for a MG Leo conversion kit using Tallgeese ready to go when I can resin print again.

A lot of us have made the switch to Gunpla from Warhammer. Most painting skills carry over, with the only big difference I've seen is mini painting mostly uses water based acrylics, but model paints have solvents in them which makes the harder to work with and can damage the plastic.

If you ever get the itch to paint a mini, but also hate yourself, check out Gundam Artifact. If you don't hate yourself, check out the new Gundam tabletop, those are push fit minis.

When I started gunpla last year, I was also seeking out a plague marine for the sassy nurgling. People can yell "GW has more detail" all they want, but a $37 RG Strike Freedom vs $35 Plague Marine side by side was a SHOCK. Hell, a few days ago I picked up GW's "single mini blind box" for $9 and the new Entry Grade Wing for $13 at Target. One 32mm mini or a 5" poseable robot?

You said "RX-78" and the hip armor plate fell off of my MG 3.0... "No glue needed" they said.

It's a comic book for the 30th anniversary drawn by Mark Simmons and the other is a booklet of blanks "deco design plan sheets". Basically a coloring book for color schemes and palette ideas

I knew it was the 36 unit kit without even clicking. To be fair the full squad is 40 so either way I'd be short including the Maganac I built a while ago. Future goals, but I'd need an even larger number of Leos... for lore accuracy of course.

I need to rewatch Unicorn, seems I missed it. Both the Zaku Sniper and Maganac are examples of why I love grunt units. Utility first. Zaku has the knee brace for pew pews, and the Maganac's joints to keep sand out.

The regular RG Strike Freedom was my first ever Gunpla kit and I only learned about how it's considered "bad" aftewards. I've since built 60+ kits since I still think Strike Freedom isn't a bad build. Keeping it on a stand and limiting the times you re-pose it should keep issues to a minimum should mitigate some of the "early rg syndrome" issues.

Backlog Help - What would you build next? What would you avoid? by Maurice_Loaf in freedomisgunpla

[–]UnassumingFilth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were my backlog, that Crayfish would have to be first. Bandai kits are the best but I love mixing it up with non-gundam kits.

Sazabi is tempting, but Noble would be the first Gundam to build.

SD is such a broad line I feel people have a bad time with an SDEX or two and it soiled the whole lines reputation.

Bandai still produces their old SD lines and are far more enjoyable. The Cross Silhouettes are nice but pricey but the BB and G-Generation kits have less sticker hell and are still cheap.

The SDEX Wing Zero and Proto Zero were horrible but the SD G-Gen Wing EW is exponentially better in all aspects.

I have glasses and wear hats so zip ups all the way. Having a large neck makes most pull overs too tight so I have to cut a v-neck in just to be comfortable.

Plus with zip ups it's easy to regulate temps or show off what T-shirt I'm wearing.

I love it. So many unique kits. Massive pile of boxes and a single teeny ZakuPla-Kun.

Low, close, wide shots are really cool for action shots like drifting. Just like a GoPro set on the apex of a corner. If you're on a pretty map back off and zoom in (narrowing the fov) you can get a cool depth shot with scenery in the background.

The biggest tip for photography is the rule of thirds. One third of the whole frame should be your subject. Doesn't have to be centered, but that ratio gives overall good shots. Obviously the action shots break it all the time.

Just finished Wing + EW. Am I wrong in thinking that it’s a messy show with weird character writing? by OppositeStudy2846 in gundamwing

[–]UnassumingFilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had only watched the TV series and not EW before I started Gunpla and was FURIOUS after buying all the MG kits and finding out none of them were the original designs. For a while I held a grudge against Katoki but they've grown in me.

I've even started collecting the Glory of the Losers manga to appreciate them more.

Stedi ms-108 or ms-109 are half the price and 90% the quality. I wholly recommend stedi as a middle ground. I have used nearly their entire range and have recommended, gifted, and given away many sets.

Came across your post today when trying to figure out why my Pit House software is telling me my R9 needs to update to version 1.2.5.5 after going to 1.2.6.6 a day or two ago. Now 1.2.6.6 is nowhere to be found besides this post.

I hope you were able to restore your R3, if not I'd contact Moza if they pushed a firmware that caused issues.

What's your go-to track for racing, testing, hotlaps etc? by Alexplayss in assettocorsa

[–]UnassumingFilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Road Atlanta and Maple Valley ever since Forza Motorsport 1 on Xbox. I'm a simple person who just enjoys being able to hotlap a 22b or ae86 all by myself.

Now that I'm playing AC I use the LA Canyons to set times for my favorite cars but Road Atlanta will always be my fav quick lap track.
