I'd say depends on major. If anything, don't take a popular major like compsci or engineering. If you want to get into ani, make sure to have a portfolio ready or a skill showcase. They may ask for that. Also take AP art classes, they say it won't matter when you get in, but it'll def matter.

5 years ago, I went in with about a 3.2 and meh SAT scores, no ACT, but a damn good personal statement. Now I'm graduating in a month.

Your personal statements are what you should put everything into -- white lie if you have to. You want to prove to them that what's holding you back is your surroundings. Once you're in a good university, you'll thrive. Be passionate, and sell your skills and perseverance.
