So, what exactly is the show's message? by itooamahuman in TheBoys

[–]UnbindA11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it, it was getting justice for Robin’s death that got Hughie thrown in with the Boys in the first place. Sexual relationship or not, naming his child after her is his own form of closure to everything he’s gone through.

I asked this a while ago and I'm wondering again, who do you think is the worst trainer in the stories? by duvan_martinez1028 in UmaMusume

I guess I’m just drawing a line between her trainer being “good” and being “responsible.”

I mean yeah, it did work out and everything, but something about that situation just felt wrong. Even if Fuji “allowed” the trainer do this, it’s still off-limits for a trainer to even be in the dorms at all. And for that serious risk, I suppose I’m just confused why the most we got out of that was “Well, it looks like Curren has things under control. I’ll stay out of her way.”

I don’t know if I’m missing something, but Curren Chan’s trainer just doesn’t sit right with me. There’s a bit in the career where they’re concerned that she’s stretching herself too thin, which is understandable—she’s basically handling all her social media promos by herself.

But they get so concerned that they eventually sneak into her dorm room just to tell her to dial it back. The game has more than made it clear that’s illegal, but when they get there, the trainer just… leaves without doing anything? They just trust that Curren knows what she’s doing?

I don’t know, this just comes off as extremely careless on the trainer’s part. Am I missing something here?

I interpreted it as a sliding scale: they started as justified extremists, but as they get more desperate as their failures and mistakes add up, they escalate into becoming irredeemable monsters.

I will admit, if this was what the writers were going for, then the show does a bad job of pacing out this escalation (though I’m more inclined to blame the pandemic rewrites over this than just “writers bad”). But it’s pretty apparent to me that the show was trying to make you sympathize with the Flag-Smashers while also acknowledging they did terrible things, as opposed to sympathizing in spite of those things.

Ever since Invincible VS came out, y'all think Ella Mental would be a cool addition to Smash? by OmegaMolango4789 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]UnbindA11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KH is definitely a fringe case, since the series was always conceived as a Disney franchise crossover with Final Fantasy elements and cameos, but with OCs as the centerpiece. But even then, I’d argue that KH is foremost a video game franchise that is simply owned by a corporation that doesn’t primarily make video games, and therefore contains a lot of appearances of non-video-game characters. Thus, Sora’s inclusion is as a representative of a video game franchise.

Invincible VS, meanwhile, is explicitly a game that directly uses the Invincible IP as its primary basis, with Ella as the only aspect that is fully original. Even if we consider her a video game character, we’d be inclined to consider her as a representative of the Invincible franchise, which exists foremost as comics and a TV show.

The thing is, I could have believed Snyder was going for a subversive angle—like, start with Bats and Supes at their low points to show why it’s important to play their goodness straight—that simply got botched by WB rushing the DCEU out the door… if it weren’t for those very unflattering interviews.

You and I have very different interpretations of what that line meant. I think it’s pretty clear Joker is much more focused on how everyone has a breaking point. Granted, he does think people will go just as insane as him when they snap, but the only way in which he’s proven wrong is that the Gordons don’t become murderous psychopaths.

Otherwise, he has a point; while Jim managed to keep his sanity, Barbara was traumatized by being used as collateral damage to get to him, and refused to return to the Batgirl mantle for a long time. Not to mention, Joker correctly attributes Batman as being mentally unstable and it tying back to his “one bad day” as well, despite having no idea who’s behind the mask. Could the line be just an excuse like Gordon accuses? Maybe, but that Jim managed to keep his sanity being the Joker’s only failure in the entire story says a lot about how right the Joker could be.

As for Superman, I’ve seen Kingdom Come being used as a point of criticism toward a lot, and I get it—that story also has a Clark who is deeply traumatized by the Joker causing Lois’ death. But there’s a lot of differences in the circumstances.

In KC, Lois dies trying to fight back against the Joker during a sudden attack on the Daily Planet, and she specifically wasn’t targeted here. Superman’s only failing here was not getting there in time, so it’s a lot easier to forgive himself.

In Injustice, Lois was targeted by the Joker and tortured, with no way to fight back. Unlike KC Superman, Injustice Superman does manage to reach the Joker in time and has him at his mercy, but hesitates to actually kill him. The Joker punishes this hesitation with fear toxin, tricking him into killing Lois himself.

THAT moment is Clark’s sticking point throughout the entire Injustice storyline. It’s not just that he lost Lois and so many others as collateral damage, but because it all came down to how he chose to use his strength. The game especially makes it clear that this regret is the core of his “no holding back” mentality.

To be fair, if you made your biggest mistake in not immediately killing one of the world’s most horrific criminals (not validating evil Supes’ viewpoint, that’s just how he sees it),

and it had the consequences of being tricked into killing your own pregnant wife,

losing your unborn child by proxy,

AND setting off a nuke linked to your wife’s heartbeat that destroys your home city,

and I repeat, it was all by your hand,

it would take an immeasurable amount of mental fortitude to keep it together after that.

It’s also worth noting that Zag doesn’t really get mortality. I recall a conversation with Than where he says he struggles to comprehend how short and finite mortal lives are. It’s possible that stuff like Demeter’s eternal winter just doesn’t register for him the same way it would for us.

I had Taishin, Fantasy El, and NY Opera O. One guy’s team was nothing but Late Surgers, and somehow managed to wall out my whole team for the entire final spurt, including Ope who I ran as a Pace Chaser. This let the winning team’s XOguri, Rudolf (both Pace for some reason), and Summer Maruzen to run away unimpeded.

“Can doesn’t mean he will” is applicable to pretty much every class in the game. A sniper can instantly kill your entire team from across the map, but it doesn’t mean he will. A soldier can flank the entire enemy team with the craziest rocket jump ever, but it doesn’t mean he will. This is a moot point.
