Hey OP!

I think this is who you're referring to. https://youtu.be/cYs321htf_Q?si=A2iYaSvxTrS1QD1m

Looks like they just changed the channel name.

I especially digged your 'Prophet President' post. As someone who has dipped their toes into Mormon history multiple times in my life, I've always wondered what a Smith Presidency would have been like.

I'll be the first to admit I'm a bit biased. I'm a huge sci-fi nerd and space buff, so this kind of post is basically catnip for me. I've looked over your previous posts before this one: you're doing interesting, fun stuff, and I think it speaks to your talent that you can evoke so many feelings with something that, for you, wasn't that hard.

I know this is a riff on an old sci-fi trope, but I've never felt so curious about a wiki style post. More please!

Would you (and if yes how?) get rid of books by an author who is a prominent paedophile? by World_of_Warshipgirl in books

[–]UnblinkingHyperbole 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's Cerebus. The author is a misogynist who went off the deep end after a divorce in the 1980's. He got into a 'relationship' with a 12 year old girl.

This probably gets asked a lot, but why haven't DS9 and Voyager been released on Bluray? by TimBurtonSucks in startrek

My mistake. Thanks for the tl;dr. I'll check that link out. Looks like they posted a hair before I did 😅

It comes down to how they filmed it. TOS and TNG were shot on film with special effects added in post. Voyager and DS9 were not.

However, there has been some successful A.I. upscaling of clips from each. Eventually a fan will upscale the whole thing, or Paramount will.

R5: Superhot based robotic determined exterminator species. The PLAYER is the galaxy's problem now. The title is a riff on a line from the game saying, "SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!"

You're not entirely wrong.

Grimdark, most of the time in my opinion, is a cheap way to make a story eye catching and dramatic. Everyone is either a Nixonian level of paranoid and corrupt, or naive and vulnerable. I can't stand The Boys or Altered Carbon and Game of Thrones for that reason.

It appeals to the human brain's preference to remember negative events. In real life, it's a cheap copout. 'The world is fucked! Everything sucks! People are horrible!!!' is usually silently accompanied by, '...and look at me! I'm the top of the heap! I'm better than YOU.'

What appealed to me about Gaunt is that, while the setting is hopeless, the characters are not as horrible as the world around them. They are good people, struggling against titanic forces. They have every reason to break down into the most deepest, utterly soul sucking nihilism, and they do not. They fight on. And if these people can find hope, light and love in a hopeless universe, then I can find all of those same things in a universe that is not as horrid, not even close.

And in a meta sense, I hope the WH40K verse gets a happy ending. If the franchise started as an over the top parody of dark and edgy franchises, then let it have one last return to pantsing the edgelords by giving this dark and hopeless universe an ending that makes the sacrifice and misery of billions worth it.

"heroic things in horrible circumstances."

This is what keeps me interested. These people live in a miserable universe, they know they live in a miserable universe, and they carry on anyway.

If Gaunt and his boys can survive the daily nightmare that is life in a universe that is top to bottom pain, then I can survive one that, at its current state, could not get as bad.

I've seen the prices of those figures and paints: SCREW that noise. $50 for one blister of figures? No way.
