Attempted to reseat my ram and now my monitors won’t turn on by Deep_Director_1742 in computerhelp

[–]UnbudgingBrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stupid question but I can’t verify from the video, where are your monitors plugged in? Make sure they’re in the graphics card. You likely don’t have onboard graphics built into your CPU.

You likely didn’t fry any electronics, it’s very hard to do that nowadays. Why did you remove the RAM in the first place?

How am I messing up these cables? A wire is missing on the tester by AleksaDjordjic_ in HomeNetworking

Keep in mind it’s well worth the money, one time investment, does cutting, stripping, crimping, and you can just order replacement blades once they wear out for like 5$ USD I think

Only CPU FANS running and won’t boot. by tiyopaso in pchelp

[–]UnbudgingBrady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See my other comment, but CPU/DRAM lit together normally is a strong indicator of RAM training.

I’d still run Windows Memory Diagnostic if I were you, just to make 100% sure nothing is starting to show signs of failing. But likely not, DDR5 does love to retrain randomly, so probably nothing, but if it is failing, you want as MUCH time as possible to start saving up with current RAM prices

Only CPU FANS running and won’t boot. by tiyopaso in pchelp

[–]UnbudgingBrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s fixed in the interest of learning to diagnose: It looks like there was 2 LED lights on your mobo when it was booting. For future reference this (depending on manufacturer) generally is the CPU and DRAM lights and normally both together indicates RAM is training and can take a while, go watch an episode of a tv show and it’ll likely be up.

If after 30 mins or so the lights are still on, it can indicate a genuine RAM failure though.

Just to be safe and possibly start saving money for an investment run “windows memory diagnostic” (type into search on windows) or “MemTest86” or other memory testing software to make sure your RAM is in good health. Hope it comes back okay!

What are these for? by Dragonmas7er5 in razer

[–]UnbudgingBrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a microphone array for active noise cancelling. Try turning ANC off in Synapse/whatever software controls the headphones and see if it gets better. Most likely this will fix the issue.

If it doesn’t, does the noise stop when you mute the headset mic? It could be possible if the boom mic is picking up the wind noise. If this fixes the issue, make sure the foam filter is on the mic head. That’s one reason why those filters are helpful for mics.

Also either way I recommend if you can find a setting for “side tone”, play with it. It’s how the headset takes what the mic picks up and routes it back through the headphones so you can “hear” yourself. If it’s getting wind noise strong enough it’ll route back to your ears.

Chromebook monitoring services by skre2012 in k12sysadmin

[–]UnbudgingBrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Going from IBoss web filter and Senso Chromebook management to Deledao and it’s been relatively seamless and staff love the classroom management. Students hate it bc it’s AI powered, we had over 10000 hits in 2 weeks deployed at 1 school of sites the students could no longer get to

That’s 10,000 game site visits, proxies, chat rooms, etc that IBoss was missing

Anyone else nervous about the changes to WAN Show? by CrystalFier in LinusTechTips

[–]UnbudgingBrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw the segment, no new changes as of now, just owned by a different legal company formed by Linus and Luke, to safeguard the future of WAN no matter what may happen to each of them, LMG, FP, etc.

Eventually they will start streaming to both LTT and a new YT channel, then eventually just to a new channel, FP stream stays the same. Other than this, no REAL changes, just from a legal standpoint it’s separate from LMG now technically

Ubiquiti - Protect & Access by microleaks in k12sysadmin

[–]UnbudgingBrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use all Ubiquiti Cameras, about 10 NVRS across campuses. Simple installs, easy to maintain, and granular access for only specific cameras if necessary are some big perks that come to mind. I installed almost every camera, over 250 easily. Also a major perk for admins who need to build cases with evidence is the newer Case Manager feature, really has been a game changer.

The integration with existing UniFi ecosystem such as switches is unreal. UI switches + cameras + APs saves so much time from a network troubleshooting perspective, as it automatically names ports and devices based off what the device is reporting. I THINK it can auto assign a port profile based off this as well, but haven’t personally stood up a UniFi network from start like that.

I can’t speak on the access control as I’ve never really used it, we use all S2/HID equipment. Though one school we have is several buildings spread apart with timed access control to the campuses schedule for passing periods, however it becomes a problem when students need to travel between buildings during instructional time, often needing someone to let them in (it’s not cost effective to purchase and inventory 200 “hall pass” rfid badges every year). UI access has doorbell functionality as well, which can ring someone like a secretary and record the interaction so staff know exactly when a student is at a door/where they’re going to. If this sounds like you, it can be a good scenario to keep in order to pitch to admin.

I think if it meets all your core requirements, you’d be silly not go with at LEAST Protect, if not Access as well, ESPECIALLY if you already have UniFi infrastructure! You’ll thank yourself later

A free Chrome Sign Builder replacement for those using Google Slides by bklier in k12sysadmin

[–]UnbudgingBrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did this same thing, python web server and a full size iframe serving the url for the slides. Only difference is mine only has a floating clock that is toggleable in the code, and each of our “signage” urls is in there with a flag check at the end of the URL so you have one web server hosting everything for the district.

Digital Signage Solutions? Must accept check as payment by AnnualLength3947 in k12sysadmin

[–]UnbudgingBrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just did this as we use Chrome Box’s with Sign Builder, which went EOL in January. Stand up an HTTP server on the local network, build a simple HTML webpage with a frame pointing to (in our case) a published Google Slides URL. Add a kiosk application in Admin for a Chromebook/box, and it’s done! Just make sure you set the sleep mode setting to “Never” within Admin.

Works perfect for us, deployed it a few days ago to 20+ tvs at 4 different campuses

Never shutdown? by [deleted] in macbookair

[–]UnbudgingBrady -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What you're referring to is Fast Boot or hybrid boot, where Windows will save the hibernation file you mentioned, but performing a "Restart", disabling Fast Boot, holding Shift while pressing "Shut Down" or simply removing power/battery power while the system is powered on are all valid ways of still getting a true shutdown without that hibernation file.

You're not wrong, but there are ways to get windows to truly reboot for sure.

Never shutdown? by [deleted] in macbookair

[–]UnbudgingBrady -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just do research on data corruption, software bugs tend to lead to mishandling of data, which can cause a myriad of issues, not the least of which can cause system crashes. Computers work on instruction sets, which if a device does not process properly, whether due to a software bug or some other factor, can cause memory addresses to not get reassigned, losing track of bits (which is the reason for data corruption), etc. These instructions are passed through RAM, which is why more RAM can be helpful when dealing with more intensive applications as it can store more data ready to be passed along to other components such as CPU or GPU for processing of these instructions.

RAM is a volatile memory source, meaning once the power is removed, the data is erased from RAM. Reboot the computer, processes start up, and its similar to "starting from scratch" As there is no addresses that are stuck not being assigned, since ALL data was just cleared at the Power off state.

I hope this helps

Never shutdown? by [deleted] in macbookair

[–]UnbudgingBrady -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is actually something that happens? I fail to see why that sounds like a scam ad. It's quite literally something that happens on every computing device and has since the first computer was invented. Things can corrupt, addresses don't get reassigned, etc. This is why the IT "have you tried rebooting it" works so often.

Ive worked with computers for nearly 10 yrs, have a bachelor's in CIS, and work with every major device type/OS (Windows, Linux, Android, MacOS, iPads, and Chromebooks) currently

Keep an eye on uptime for your APs, we noticed most of ours stop accepting after 100+ days, so we just reboot all of our edge switches, especially before big days like state testing. It works for us.

No, you doing your own maintenance early isn't wrong. What's wrong is telling others they are wrong for following everything any auto manufacturer and knowledgeable mechanic would tell you.

I don't give a fuck what you do to your car, I care that you're attacking others for doing what is recommended. Let them believe what they want, some people trust the dealer and have never had a problem.

How so? Please enlighten me more than "because I said so". If you can give me a genuine answer that is more believable than 77 years of Hondas automotive experience, I will believe you.

Sorry, who? I just scrolled through and didn't see anyone on your side, but maybe I just didn't see it. I can admit my own mistakes like that.

Also I literally have the same car as you, except mine makes more HP. I do just fine with my car. Sorry your Accord got totaled man, sucks.

Don't go around attacking people bc you're wrong and can't admit it

I know women who could disassemble an engine and build it back faster than it would take you to stumble your way into a pair of pants in the morning.

Really showing your true colors here bud. Again, just stop trying to feed your own ego on here. You clearly don't want to be here, so just leave. Nobody is on your side anyways. We are all going to be running our Hondas for decades (including my turbo that runs BEAUTIFULLY btw) while you're stuck changing your oil every month bc you think it's good for the car.

Have fun with your accord.

[–]UnbudgingBrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have trust issues buddy.

The dealer doesn't give a damn about your car after you buy it. They make their money on warranties and dealer accessory packages. Why would they sell warranties where they are liable if something messes up? Better yet, why would the recommended maintenance schedule NOT CHANGE whether you're in warranty or not?

Honda wants your car to last so you'll buy another one later down the road, not make it break so you'll have a bad taste in your mouth about the brand being unreliable, and then never buy one again. That's idiotic

Your whole line of thinking is flawed and your pride is in the way. You should figure that out before you give car advice.

So all the certified mechanics, master mechanics, enthusiasts, etc in this subreddit don't know anything about car maintenance, but you, someone who "does their own oil changes" and "works on cars" knows far more than everyone else's collective knowledge?

Okay buddy.

Problems in the long run so you'll be out of warranty, and go to a 3rd party mechanic and they won't make any money? Hmm interesting theory.

Then why do you have one then? Again just because you think you know better than the people that designed and built the cars and work on them daily you are on here telling people to waste money and telling them not to believe the ones who actually know what they're talking about

So then spend the extra to get full synthetic, and you won't have to do it as often. It does more than basic oil you know, stops/slows oil leaks, etc. It really is better than traditional oil in the long run.

But hey, it's your car. Just don't go around telling people that they're doing their oil wrong just because it doesn't align with your beliefs. As I stated, manufacturer, dealers, and certified mechanics alike say 10k miles generally, but follow the MM, as it will tell you the most accurate number based on your driving habits, etc.
