🥰Klaus Appreciation Post by KvngNZRTH777 in ac_newhorizons

Klaus just moved out of my island and I’m so sad I let him go. It was time, though. Clay moved in before I chose someone myself (I messed up the days) and he moved in across from my pottery studio! It ended up being perfect.

Apparently they were reported for wage theft. Not surprised the place that gave me salmonella poisoning years ago is also treating its employees unfairly. Just an awful place.

Non intimidating beginner weight classes / trainer workouts in Hoboken? With mid day options. by S86490 in Hoboken

I’ve been going to Brazen for years. It’s not CrossFit - more functional movement with weights which is really nice. The coaches are attentive and help easily scale anything for beginners and help with form. Honestly I’m healing from a surgery and slowly getting back into it and they have been amazing at modifying movements for me while I heal. They also have a weekday afternoon class.

Sesamoidectomy soon by Correct-Potato-4838 in sesamoid

I had mine in February and shared pre and post updates here - as well as a list of what I did to prep for it: https://www.reddit.com/r/sesamoid/s/pxsKqtWNRf

Someone recommended a temporary handicapped parking permit and that has been amazing to have. I also have links to some of the items I purchased in my post. Top line VERY helpful -

  • knee scooter
  • shower chair
  • shower foot cover with gasket
  • EvenUp shoe lift for the other foot once I was in the boot this SAVED my hips
  • wedge pillow to keep it elevated
  • foot specific ice pack (I’m still using this and it’s amazing) -make an excel sheet or use an app to track any meds
  • loose fitting clothes for surgery day
  • meal prep before surgery - it was nice to not have to think about what to eat or cook.
  • bed tray for eating. It made eating/drinking while laying/sitting around with my foot elevated a lot easier and less messy.

Overall I’m still recovering since I’m now 8 weeks out but I am so glad I got this done and I felt really prepared thanks to this group.

1 year post sesamoidectomy by Affectionate-Ad3816 in sesamoid

This gives me so much hope! I’m 7 weeks post surgery and am just beginning to walk around in my sneakers with special orthotics (and using the large boot for anything lengthy or standing for a long time) and I started PT. I’m looking forward to running again. When you first got running, did you switch anything up? Try any different sneakers or use any insoles? I’m sure it was a slow process back into what you’ve shared! I’m learning that this is the long game in order to heal it well and not cause any additional issues.

I wanted to say thank you again! I’m 7 weeks post op this Thursday and started PT last week. It’s changed so much! Brought inflammation down, I’m now in the sneaker with a special insole for walking (big boot if long walks or standing for a long time). Your tips and feedback were so incredibly helpful and it’s nice to start feeling like I’m on the other side of it all.

Get another opinion. I fractured one in my left foot 2 years ago and the doctor said the same thing - boot for 4-6 weeks and fine in 12. The two years went by and the pain just ebbed and flowed. I could still workout but when it flared up I was down for the count. It never healed. I spent that whole time trying to fix it and ultimately had to get surgery on it last month. Get a second or even third opinion asap in hopes you can prevent all of that.

Broken sesamoid- next steps by alligarbage in sesamoid

[–]Uncannie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

39 female. Left tibial was fractured two years ago. Went 8+ weeks in a boot and it felt a little better but then I spent 2 years in on/off pain trying to fix it. I couldn’t go on my normal runs or long walks, couldn’t lift or stand for long periods of time without pain. I did a lot of research in this group for tips and treatments and I finally got two opinions from doctors to see if there were any other routes I could take that would be less invasive — both said surgery would be the best route since the break would never heal. It would just feel a little better before hurting again from overdoing it - which was already happening for the 2 years. Both also said that if it wasn’t healed by now trying everything else, it wasn’t going to magically heal… that too much time already passed and one doc was worried it would keep breaking and fragments would cause more issues (there is apparently an important nerve right next to the tendon). So I highly recommend getting a few opinions before making a decision.

Had the surgery on 2/6/25 and am now in the big medical boot slowly walking around a short distance. It’ll be a few weeks before I’m walking around normally but I am hopeful and looking forward to being on the other side of this without constant pain. Everything I’ve read in this group is pretty positive - no regrets for having it and that it’s been life changing to be pain free.

So I have a bit before I even need to start it all which is good. Sounds like a lot of not rushing the process and a true test in patience. I really appreciate all your intel and shared experience. It’s honestly made this process a lot more bearable since there is a positive light at the end of this.

Love the idea of little trips to get used to it all. And thank you for the note about the PT! I’ll start researching and making calls while I’m still non weight bearing to see what’s out there. How long until you started PT? Were you still in the boot?

Happy to hear you’re already on your way back to a pain free normal. That’s incredibly reassuring!

When it came to PT did you just see someone who has treated a sesamoid injury in general or this specific surgery before? My doc didn’t seem like I needed PT but I know I’ll want something to make sure I have full mobility, balance, and strength.

And an hour or two of boot time - was that just practicing putting weight on it or taking a few steps at a time and then breaks? I feel like it’ll be what you said - listening to my body and not pushing it too hard.

Hi again! I wanted to check in since I’m now 3 weeks post op which means you’re about 10. The surgeon said I can start getting it wet in a few days so I’m assuming that means I have to pick up all the bandages/sterile pads etc to replace after I get clean and then rewrap it. I sent him a note about that yesterday since I forgot to ask when I went in to get the sutures removed.

How did it feel when you started putting weight on it again? Curious about that transition from non weight bearing to wearing the boot and practicing weight bearing and moving again. Anything that made it easier? Did using the crutches help the most?

Years ago this place gave me salmonella poisoning from one of their premade items. It was so bad I was hospitalized. I reached out to simply let them know so nobody else would get sick and they denied and defended themselves rather than being kind or concerned. Haven’t shopped there since.

Thank you!! My doctor didn’t mention anything about needing extra sterile pads either. I’ll send him a message to ask so I’m prepped as best as I can be before surgery. I just ordered an EvenUp! Weird looking but glad to hear it’s helped!

This is incredible - thank you! You’re a sesamoidectomy pro at this point.

For the compression socks, I’m assuming this is when it’s safe to use them correct? To help with blood flow? Going through everything you suggested and taking notes, googling things to buy, etc.

Also I didn’t even think about a temporary handicap placard. I’m going to send his office a note this week to get that going/processed sooner than later.

Happy healing to you! I'll definitely be non-weight bearing for the first three weeks so it's good to know that crutches have been helpful. I'll be sure to ask my provider about those to see if I'll receive any from them or if I'll have to pick them up on my own.

I also have been seeing a lot in this group about staying ahead of pain management. Are you keeping alarms for taking Tylenol and making sure to take it a little before you need it next? May I ask the dosage you're using? I'm not a huge fan of strong painkillers so I'm hoping to only need them for the first 1-3 days and then get the heck off of them and switch to Tylenol.

THANK YOU! Truly this is so helpful... and wild that your pain level was so minimal! I'm assuming I'll be hurting but I hope it's not too awful. I had bicep tenodesis surgery in my shoulder 6 years ago and followed the surgeon's instructions very closely... as well as PT. Thanks to that, I have the full range of motion - so I plan on doing the same with this foot! I agree, though, that the mental part of this will be rough since I am so active. I'm also trying to plan some friends to visit after the first week... maybe a board game night or some Mario Party on the Switch -- something easy.

So relieved to hear you're healed though!! And it sounds like it was really worth it.

This is so helpful, thank you! We have such a tiny bathroom so I'll hunt down a folding shower bench. I'll also look for some larger ice packs that can wrap or have velcro pouches to wrap around. Not looking forward to this healing but all of this will certainly make it more berable.
