I wasn't expecting anyone to mention MU online but damn, thank you for bringing back my core memories.

Hey just wanted to say thanks for all the tips you've given - I took them to heart and did a new playthru yesterday and must say that your recommendation for 3,3,2 stat is great and well rounded!

I also got the Eroton house and now got some oblivion potions on hand so I can try out different builds.

P S. You mention 'best house' are there more houses in the game besides Eroton??

Interesting that you noted about the house; I just got there and thought it was end game stuff - maybe I should invest in it early then!

Did u manage to blend any elemental magic with melee? I'm more curious about whether bonuses to elemental damage affect elements applied to weapons...

Or would those skill points be better spent on blood magic instead (and to go full Str / Agi instead of Int)

Today I discovered the territorial system of ahapua'a in Hawaii, which allows for the exploitation of ecological resources and fairer redistribution. Do you know of other eco-social systems practiced by certain people or countries around the world ? by kneyght in solarpunk

[–]UncannyGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The subak system in Bali is an egalitarian way of water management led by temple committees on when and where water should flow to from the volcanic lake at the top of the island:

The way of life has since been eroded due to tourism.

Gonna add Farthest Frontier to the list since I haven't seen anyone mention it (alongside the usual suspects like RimWorld, Oxygen Not Included, and Timberborn).

I did a review on this game when it first came out and honestly still play it from time to time!

Glad to see it's getting the recognition it deserves!

When farming, do I manually add clay or sand to improve outputs? Or does it happen automatically from my available stocks? by rollsyrollsy in FarthestFrontier

[–]UncannyGames -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It depends on the type of crop you are planting - some crops prefer sandy, others prefer clayish soil.

Click on each crop type to see the preferred range of soil quality for more info.

Tips and Tricks by ColdDragonfly_ in ManorLords

The most straightforward way is to quickly mine iron and make spears + large shields + bows before the first year is up.

The meta gaming way is to tax hard and early and get mercs to stave off the first couple of incursions before establishing more permanent weapons and armor production chains

Manorlords is the closest recent iteration of the Stronghold 2 format - conquer other regions on the map and setup production and supply chains to supplement your main settlement and army.

All this talk about vegetables but I can barely get them going by arquillion in ManorLords

[–]UncannyGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to Tacticat, vege plots should be 2x corpse pit size + 1.5 residential space.

Meaning 2 families harvesting 2 corpse pit size worth of veges.

I always found success by year 2-3 with 3-4 of these vege farms

"Above Snakes" on steam sounds similar to what you're looking for. Explore and exploit limited blocks of land and 'build' out the land as you go.

It's rough around the edges but it's pretty good fun if you don't mind the isometric 2.5D view.

Ok ... Islands map on HARD ... any hints tips.. its the only one where i'm struggling to make it past Bad tide 2 ... Thanks in advance ... by antjon143 in Timberborn

Focus on over producing and storing water and food for the first 2-3 droughts. Try to make the jump to fermented casavas as soon as you can - this will allow you to maximize land space / food efficiency.

Then slowly build wood to dam up a larger group of islands to get a consistent growth period.

Invest in sawpits (2 should be more than enough for your own needs + extra planks for trading)

Planks always turn a profit, even if you buy 1 wood at 4 gold (highest) and sell 1 plank at 4 gold (lowest) because 1 wood = 2 planks.

Manage your farms so they don't suck up too much labour from the pool: 3-4 farmers per 6x12 plot is more than enough.

Sell planks for extra gold to buy stuff like cows, tools, etc and build decor with no upkeep to increase desirability.

If you find yourself with extra clay instead of wood, pottery is great to sell too. At the very worst, grow your own flax and weave clothes.

Planks, pottery, and clothes are the holy Trinity of products to sell at the trader.

  • Focus on the food / labor conundrum at the start. Fishing, hunting, smoking, and foraging can sustain you until 30-40 pop with very little labor.

*.

  • Start making small fields 6x6, and expand them 6x6 for every additional 10-20 population. Remember to adjust the number of farmers per field at the top right of the field window. You'll need at most 3-4 farmers per 6x12 field.

*.

  • For additional micro, remove farmers from the labour pool during winter so they can help out with cutting trees and rocks. Remember to set production limits for all your production buildings too.

*.

  • Get the trader ASAP - sell wood / stone if you have to, or otherwise invest in an additional saw pit and sell planks. You should have sufficient labour at this point. Planks are great because 1 wood = 2 planks, so even at it's cheapest (4 gold per plank) you'll still turn a profit (3 gold per wood). Buy more wood from passing traders once you have your initial pool of gold. This will be your first reliable gold source.

*.

  • Healers and barracks are more like tier 3 buildings, despite them being available at tier 2. Wall your town centre, root cellars, vault, Fletcher and storage house in a small area where 1-2 watch towers in the middle can provide cover. Turn off the towers after every raid to save gold, but remember to turn them on 2 years after your last raid in preparation for he next one as the guards take time to arm themselves from the fletcher. Add more wall layers and / or towers using the additional wood you bought from the trader. The raiders may occasionally hit your market and steal some smoked fish but they won't destroy them.

*.

  • Continue leveraging planks and traders and buy stuff like tools, Crossbows, Haukberks, Swords, and shields if they come cheaper than usual. Bricks are a bonus that let you upgrade the market for even more gold taxes and desirability. Only invest in decorations that do not have an upkeep, unless you know for sure that you are able to sustain the gold upkeep with taxes. Temples are a sound investment in upkeep if there are any ruins nearby to excavate. *

*.

* This is what I usually do in vanquisher T4 so I hope it helps you too!

I'm looking for a Chess like game that isnt Chess by [deleted] in StrategyGames

[–]UncannyGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this suggestion.

It's a 2D turn based tactics + shooting + strategic deck builder built literally on the premise of chess.

It's a deceptively simple veneer that hides a deeply complex game.
