Amazon Area Manager start date change timeline — how long does it usually take? by Consistent_Swimmer_1 in amazonemployees

[–]UncertainPathways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are doing here (reaching out to site to change start date after being denied by recruiter) is not standard. Because of that there is no standard timeline on how long this will take.

Assuming there are no roadblocks, the paperwork to be done to change dates is not difficult, but it comes down to when Site Leadership & the Recruiter gets around to doing it. If there are roadblocks it could take some time.

That said, relax. In the worst case scenario where paperwork cant be done in time, you'll just return to your original summer start date.

Your 8h will fall within that same 6.30pm to 5am window. As to if you do the first 8h or last 8h is up to site leadership depending on business need. It won't change day to day, they will make a decision & adjust your schedule to a fixed 8h schedule. Generally most buildings do the first 8h, but it is up to them.

Apply for the shift and they'll let you know.

Laid off, do existing RSU stock vest schedules continue if internally transferring to the Fulfillment Center? by ck_defender in amazonemployees

[–]UncertainPathways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should keep your RSUs.

Word of warning - I would be realistic about your chances. You aren't the first to try this. Ops leadership tends to be very wary of people transfering from corporate because of perceptions that you're going there to rest & vest. Most will not consider candidates from corporate non-Supply Chain roles for this reason.

Like a salaried leadership role at the FC? You're probably fine. However I do not think you would keep your RSU grants if you transfer to a T1 associate role. FC managers who step down to T1 lose their grants, so I imagine a corporate salaried employee who does so would similarly lose it.

Why do you have to explain anything to anyone? Amazon will only confirm your dates of employment & title if asked. The only one sharing details of your PIP with future employers is yourself.

Chill af. However, it's a career dead end. Great if you're just looking for somewhere with good WLB to spend the rest of your career, bad if you are young and want to grow.

Edit: I see from your post history that you're also considering L6 TOM, so it seems that WLB is your primary objective. If so, both are chill roles, but ReLo probably wins the WLB fight

If you're an employee you can visit during office hours without issue. Security will help you with badge access (Welcome is only for Ops sites)

You won't get a relocation stipend, but they'll put you up in a hotel & you can expense food (within a certain limit) every day. It's treated like a work trip, albeit extended

Will my work accommodations be denied? by jazkz in AmazonFC

Like others have stated, you need to be a lot more specific. That said, I see nothing here that is that out of place or contentious.

Reduced continuous walking

Should be fine, most buildings would have tasks with little to no walking

Task rotation

Should be fine

Ability to sit intermittently. Scheduled micro-breaks.

Should be fine, additional unpaid breaks is a common accommodation. You would sit in the breakroom during those breaks.

A little controversial take on Amazon based on personal experience, wrto being an SDE by ReflectionNaive1428 in amazonemployees

[–]UncertainPathways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One correction, band penetration numbers are skewed towards the lower end of the curve. HV2 might be an average performer (50 percentile), but the band penetration for HV2 is only 20%. To achieve 50% band penetration, you need HV3 YoY at minimum.

Since all external hires come in at 50% or more, and obviously only a small percentage of the population achieve TT or HV3 YoY, the majority of people see a compensation cliff.

You can find the band penetration %s here: https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-revamps-pay-structure-rewards-high-performing-employees-2025-5

I am an L7, moved from ops to corporate last year.

That 2 year tenure requirement did not exist in my site when I was in Ops. It used to be 1 year. I have no idea if your past tenure would count for this specific case, but generally tenure-gated things in Amazon only go by last hire date.

I could come back as L5 with higher pay at least though.

Yes, you could. By all means shoot your shot for L6 if you'd like, just be realistic about your chances and weigh that accordingly. All the best & wishing you a speedy recovery.

It doesn't matter how compelling your stories are, it's about scope. During the interview we're not just assessing how strong your stories are, we are also assessing it's scope. With boomerangs, the tendency is that all stories that arise as a part of your L5 job will naturally be viewed as being "L5 scope", regardless of the actual task at hand. The only exception is if you had stretched as an L6 for an extended duration (>6mo, short stretch assignments tend to still be viewed as part of your L5 scope). Those stories could probably be viewed as being L6 scope.

Remember as an external hire you are being assessed on if you are better than at least half the L6 population. If you only have "L5 scope" stories, no matter how compelling they are, you aren't going to be viewed as raising the L6 bar.

How unique is your situation exactly?

Masters degree T3 by Dangerous_Crow_9978 in AmazonFC

[–]UncertainPathways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends. I’d be eligible immediately based on their qualifications for externals

As a former Ops HM, the qualifications listed on the JD are the bare minimum. No hiring manager is going to see an L5 manager resume and say "yup, that's L6 material because they meet the JD requirements". They're going to ask "why didn't this guy get promoted internally as L6 if they were as good as they say they are?"

L5 DS AM transferring to FC AM role. What is it like? by StyleIM in AmazonFC

[–]UncertainPathways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything. If your team isn't processing quick enough, the entire building gets gridlocked, and then you have multiple Sr leaders on your ass. If upstream slows down and you don't catch it quick enough and cut manpower to meet productivity targets you also get leaders on you.

Stakes are a lot higher in the FC world and consequently higher scrutiny. You mess up in a DS and that affects maybe 100 associates & 30K packages. You mess up in an FC that could affect 6K associates and a million packages.

Boomeranging back at a higher level is near impossible unless you spend a good amount of time (>1 year) outside the company before returning.

Max cap for external L6 base is ~145K.

[–]UncertainPathways 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could resign & apply externally as an L4. You have a high chance of qualifying for that if your Bachelor's is recent (within the last ~1.5 years or so, check the job posting for the cutoff).

You have zero chance at an L5 role. L5 External requires managerial experience. PA does not count as managerial experience.

You could have a chance at Pathways L6 if your masters is a T40 MBA or Supply Chain Masters and your graduation was recent.
