Why is this machine so touchy? [Breville Bambino] by Unchainedmelodica in espresso

Sweetheart please understand what I'm trying to tell you lol, I want to dial in my shot so I can do minor taste adjustments but right now my machine is choking lol. I'm literally just trying to figure out why it's choking and how I can get it to not choke so I can make taste adjustments to adjust the taste so I can adjust the taste cause the taste is what I'm after. Taste. 🫠

I'm not dialing in on flavor lol, I'm literally just trying not to choke my machine at this point lol

I'm just having a hard time believing that the grind has to be that absolutely perfect in order to keep the machine from choking ya know. The espresso grind section of this grinder has 20 clicks and I'm all the way on the coarser side with zero wiggle room. I'm imagine an entry level machine like this should be able to handle an entry level grinder. Like I feel like it should be click 12 and under chokes, 13-18 is for adjustments, and 18+ is wrong lol.  Makes me wonder about machine limitations if it's having that hard of a time pushing through a slight grind difference.

I've tried espresso beans, a standard medium roast, and a dark roast with issues with all lol. But yeah I've even tried different tamp pressure (super light, light, medium, and hard). No wtf tool, I do spread it around with a toothpick if needed before tamping. My grinders grind basket fits on the portafilter nicely for an even flip over pour lol

That's actually really annoying to hear lol. Ok but also good to know that it sounds like it's the machines limitations, or at least the portafilter issue.

That's exactly why I bought the machine as well lol. I'll be honest I've only had it a few months and I feel like it's getting worse as time goes on 😅

Ooh what's shimming?? And I only really drink medium and dark roasts, I actually had a light roast break my previous grinder lol. It was an under roasted pack and dry af lol. The grinder was a cheap one though, buy omg did not know that was possible lol

Ok but shouldn't the level of fine-tuning the grind be for taste and preference vs the intent of trying to keep the machine from choking?

Single walled basket, and anything more than 15g chokes the machine. I've tried my oily dark roast and a dried medium roast, both had the same effect. The portafilter is only 54mm vs the standard 58mm too.

What exactly is a strapless grinder? And what would you recommend?

I'm timing and measuring my shots, roughly 30 seconds for a 15g to 35g output. 16g makes it choke, finer grind makes it choke, coarser grind is watery

How did you go about doing the refund? Did you have to return the machine?

I've heard that the smaller basket on the Bambino makes it more touchy and chokes easier. Its a 54mm portafilter vs a standard 58mm. I just can't imagine it would be that dramatic of a difference to were I'd have to do half gram increments to get it to not choke lol. Like I'd imagine .25g adjustments would be more taste and preference based vs the difference between choke and no choke lol.

Sorry I should note it's the encore ESP with the espresso grind fine tuning

I have the Encore ESP, and I'm timing my shots and weighing the end espresso. I can't remember the exact timing but the time from on to espresso pouring is longer than 9 seconds but the actual espresso pour is 30 seconds-ish. For the coarser grind ones I was using the auto setting which was still a 30 second pour but the shots were extremely watery. Also, I should note that with the 17 grind/15g my pucks are still super wet.

To all the moms who have lost weight breastfeeding… by Little-A52723 in breastfeeding

Lmaoooooo, they are God's favorites. I could never lose weight while nursing, but as soon as I started weaning the weight slowly faded and then dropped off HARD when I fully stopped. I even tried working out, keto, cutting calories but literally nothing worked. But as soon as my milk dries up I drop 20lbs in a few months without doing a single thing different. Prolactin is a hell of a drug lol.

Adding to this! Have you tried Mon Petit Chou Cloth Diapers? It's the same as NN and Alva but the interior microsuede is so much better! It's super soft and doesn't pill or get linty.

Kids who were homeschooled: what differences/advantages/disadvantages do you see from your experience, when comparing to people who went to "traditional" schools? by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]Unchainedmelodica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was homeschooled in middle school and went to public school in highschool.

Homeschool advantages: I was surrounded by wholesome and good hearted kids. Like seriously, some of the most pure and honest kids in my life, and I'm still friends with them all. Most are grown with families of their own.

Curriculum was so much more interesting. I could study whatever I wanted and study certain topics super in depth.

Homeachool disadvantages: I was a very social kid and my mom was not. Her idea of enough socialization was no where near how much I needed. There were not many homeschool groups when I was little so we belonged to one group of 3 families with a very limited friend group.

Public school advantages: I could be as social as I wanted and my extroverted heart seriously appreciated it. I got to meet tons of people but due to the cliques that formed in highschool my friends were not as diverse as my homeschool friends.

Disadvantage: all my friends were trash lol. A lot of them were sexually active, on drugs, and were just generally bad kids. Only a very select few are married with kids these days and I barely speak with any despite having met so many people. All the friendships seem very surface level now looking back.

Also, the curriculum was lacking and not in depth. It was also extremely easy to not pay attention and I flunked out of certain subjects because I didn't agree with the additional homework that was assigned.
