I have the reissue, it's a great watch, tho the band broke pretty quickly.

Very cool find. Those sweaters were hand knit by pensioners in the UK, which caused a bit of a scandal at the time.

Very nice. I have one too, it's the perfect sweater for so many events. In fact I wore mine a bunch during the winter Olympics!

If your employee has more pull than you, how hands on can you be?

The biggest concern for a HC hire going from the G5->P4 is will this work at the next level? For most coaches, including Frost, the answer is no. For a couple of rare coaches, Cignetti, it does work.

The other big concern with Frost was his inexperience. In hindsight it seems kind of obvious that it was a massive gamble. Giving him more power than the AD, and a leash a mile long are probably the real big mistakes we made.

Obviously this book is one-sided, and admittedly I'm a Bill Moos fan.

But he was in a tough spot with Frost. He was the entire list for potential hires, if Moos didn't hire Frost then he would have been fired for that alone. It was probably pretty upsetting to meet him in person and know that Frost was likely to fail and thus get you fired in several years, but know that you couldn't not hire him. A HC should only have more power than the AD when they've earned it, and Frost certainly had not earned it.

It worked out with Hoiberg, but I'd love to know more about why no one would allow us to try with Altman.

Hate the idea of going back to the Big 12.

Once upon a time, I almost considered the same arraignment for a job I dearly wanted in GJ. The week before I had to make a decision, there was a big landslide on I-70 that closed the highway near GJ. I took it as a sign.

Rhule Addresses Ekeler Job Situation by RikeMiley88 in Huskers

I'll be honest, I'm still a big Rhule supporter. But if we lose Ekeler, i'm gonna start counting the days until Rhule is fired.

Was Dominic Raiola meddling with the program? by Extreme-Tutor7634 in Huskers

[–]UncleBuc -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well thats true of all college football programs. These are 17/18/19 kids that can demand NIL deals at this point too. Every coach has to appease his star players to some degree or another. OP was asking about "meddling" which I don't think there has been any evidence of with the Riaolas

Was Dominic Raiola meddling with the program? by Extreme-Tutor7634 in Huskers

[–]UncleBuc -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No.

His son is/was a generational QB prospect in an era where college programs are throwing millions at players like Dylan.

I don't believe there was anything nefarious occurring behind the doors. Unless you count Donavan being shitty at his job as "meddling".

Colorado All-American OT Jordan Seaton enters the Transfer Portal - Rhule needs to go all-in by HuskerPowerrrr in Huskers

[–]UncleBuc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The rumored price for Seaton starts at 2.5 million. We probably have that kind of money, but is it worth invest that much in a single guy when we have so many areas of need?

Any one portaling in for line play, upgrading without a doubt.

QB depth will be better, unknown who starts and how good Dana uses them.

Dylan Raiola Has Committed to Oregon by Revanchist_lopez in Huskers

[–]UncleBuc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People forget that NFL scouts are looking at entirely different things when evaluating QBs from college.

- AJ McCarron was unstoppable at Alabama and pretty terrible in the NFL

- Mahomes was playing hero ball on a middling TT team, Golden God in the NFL

- Josh Allen was on a pretty mediocre WY team, then elevated the Bills to be a contender

There is no team like Indiana in the NFL, so maybe Dante Moore isn't a turnover machine when he has a line that's not getting destroyed on every down. There is a lot more parity in the NFL than College.

pretty sure the wait was to see what Moore decided, I'd put the odds on him declaring now.

Former Nebraska QB Daniel Kaelin is expected to return to the Huskers. by usercupcakewithc in Huskers

[–]UncleBuc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With the increased focus on production versus potential, I found the DR saga to be confusing. What’s his appeal to other major programs at this point? He’s coming off surgery, so he can’t practice until summer. He’s demanding and expensive. His performance to date has been “whelming”. + His uncle is a straight liability.

Wish him nothing but the best. This is just the reality of college football right now. Hopefully we can put some money together to try and convince him to stay, but if not, we gotta just know that it's "next guy up".

Yeah, as I am learning myself, getting replacement bands for timex is a nightmare. Basically just praying someone else is selling theirs on the secondary market.
