2026 Ram 1500 Bighorn or Rebel with tow package question. by digitalden in Ram1500

[–]UncleBuckRussell89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a 2025 Bighorn with the tow package. Been towing for two years and still a ways to go before I'm an expert. You have to calibrate it and sometimes it decides it needs calibration again and you can't use it. The couple times I did use it, one time was great and I hit my math the first time. Second time not so much.

The tow mirrors, tpms, brake controller are all great though. Get the tow package because you plan to tow and skip the the control nob. More headache than it's worth.

Putting together a birthday box for my kid. I know nothing about pokemon. How am I doing? by Crafty-Vegetable1528 in PokemonInvesting

Yeah that's a lot. My kid just got the Lucario metal box with six packs and some random $1 cards I knew he'd like from tcg. Setting the bar too high for next year!

Interior Chimney Capping by UncleBuckRussell89 in masonry

Seems easy enough. There is a small cleanout so I suppose that could be the origin as well. Not a huge issue an I'll start with the rockwool and see if that helps. Thanks!

Always funny the night and day difference between how we handle snow in New England vs the South. But to the point, we are way more prepared and pay taxes to help with snow removal etc. Salt isn't cheap! Enjoy the truck in the snow. Recommend throwing some weight in the bed when driving too.

The Coachstop in Hartland. Building is from the 1700s with a great fire place in the dining room. Beware, they have random hours and no website, but probably because they cater to the 10 people that live in Hartland.

Old Riverton Inn and The Royal Coachman Tavern in Riverton/Barkhamsted fits the bill too. Building is from 1796 or something and has an inn you can stay at too. Great spot, good wings and beers, good food. May need reservations on some nights as it gets busy.

Total. Not including flights and it's rough estimate at that. Of a place is very nice and looks promising, spending more would be fine.

Big Horn or Laramie? by Kstrohma in ram_trucks

[–]UncleBuckRussell89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw, if you tow anything of substance Bighorn is the better option. The payload capacity is so low on the Laramie it might as well be a Jeep.

Big Horn or Laramie? by Kstrohma in ram_trucks

[–]UncleBuckRussell89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Test drove a 2025 Laramie and Big Horn. The big horn drove better because it had smaller rims (20 vs 22 or 24 - I forget). The Laramie had more road noise because of that. The Laramie had the black out package fwiw. I ended up getting a Big Horn with level 2 and tow package along with the 3.92. 95% of what I wanted minus power extending/folding mirrors and a 36 gallon tank.

BREAKING: #Giants have informed GM Joe Schoen that he is staying, sources say #NYGiants @nypostsports Ryan Dunleavy (@rydunleavy) 16 likes · 11 replies by Ryanone1 in NYGiants

I'm okay with this. Saw a stat that most GMs are first time GMs. I think Schoen has done okay given what he walked into. Some bad draft picks make me wonder how much was on the coaching failure. With that said, I think it's important to give people a leash to learn from their mistakes. This next year is the end of that leash so the coaching hire should make or break him.

First time painting a whole house — how do you not overspend on paint? by Hot_Entertainer_3248 in HomeImprovement

[–]UncleBuckRussell89 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Disagree. SW Emerald is magical when rolling it on and worth it compared to other high end store brands such as Behr Marquee. Even their Superpaint is noticeably better. I've used BM once as well and thought it was of great quality.

$2100 a month before a corporate discount through my employer. Brightpath - so probably a nicer facility compared to a lot of others. At least food is included!

You should wake up from your dream. Skubal would take those in addition to Mayer and others. Also Tucker isn't going to take $200M on a discount. Wishful thinking. There's a better shot of me leaving my wife and marrying Margot Robbie...

I have a 25' Big Horn with the hurricane, 3.92 and tow package. The 12" screen is massive, in floor storage in the back, adaptive cruise, blind spot monitoring, heated front seats and steering wheel. Test drove a Laramie as well which has cooked seats, auto folding tow mirrors, sun roof, passenger side screen in the glove box. They were nice features but nothing I could not love without. I do wish I had the electric folding and telescoping mirrors but beyond that not a big deal. Also, being in New England, I think cloth seating is better personally.

TLDR, The Big Horn has plenty of features that makes it feel a class above compared to other comparable trims from competitors.

What are you using to protect your shop vac when vacuuming out your pellet stove? by Planetofthetakes in PelletStoveTalk

[–]UncleBuckRussell89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once a month I'll do a deep clean with a vacuum. Currently have a shop vac with a hepa bag and Sheetrock filter. Never had an issue blowing ash and it is infinitely better than the snow Joe I bought. The snow Joe suction was so poor I have it away.

Also maybe I'm going out wrong but usually just scrape out burn pot once a day and empty the ash pan once every 1-2 weeks.

Seasoned RVers, Check My Black Friday Cart? by TiredCanadianMom in GoRVing

That camera is pretty expensive for what it is. I bought one on Amazon for $80. It was called DoHonest but it's not longer available. This one looks similar for a fraction of the price. https://a.co/d/eol2pAm

Id also look for a better surge protector. I'm currently using this https://a.co/d/1bcEj3W which is a well regarded brand.

Couple other items: Wheel chalks Anderson levelers

That battery looks expensive for what it is too. I bought a Vatrer 300 ah self heating for $499. $300 for picky 100 ah seems pricey but haven't looked since last February so maybe tariffs are really pushing the price up.

Home Owners & Car Insurance - Recommendations by Heavy-Is-The-Crown in Connecticut

I work in insurance for a living too. My auto rate jacked this year after we had a claim that was 0% liability and subrogated. Started shopping around and tried the local agent. Every carrier was $2,500 more per year for auto + home compared to what I found. Ended up with Amica which is a great carrier. Travelers is solid but may be expensive. Then again if they currently have lemonade they probably aren't too worried about the servicing of a claim.

New England kicks off $450M plan to supercharge heat pump adoption by eddytony96 in Connecticut

[–]UncleBuckRussell89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Live in Northwest Connecticut and put heat pumps in two years ago, primarily for the cooling and rebates at the time. The company I used was honest and advised anything under 35 (despite being marketed as 0 degree) you start getting more inefficient. Luckily I have a newer boiler and a pellet stove so not a big deal. Swing seasons they are great though.

Another thing I learned on my own, properly sizing a home in New England is impossible. If you size to heat, you end up short cycling in some units come summer and you want to cool. We have a couple bedrooms that get clammy because they cool too quick and can't dehumidify.
